The carburetors are in desperate need of some PROFESSIONAL attention. They all stop up after sitting for that long.

Screw a test gage in the engine where the electric sending unit is. Check to see what the pressure is cold and after it is warmed up. It may be a bad sender.

Sound like the fuel pump is not keeping up with the engine's demand. Check it out. Good luck. Hope this helps.

Hard starting on Yamaha 130 2 stroke. Always starts easily with ether. Choke works well.

This can have some reasons:
1 clogged carburettors. Too less fuel means a hard start.
2 Worn spark plugs
3 Loss of compression... On a 2-stroke, measuring compression is not an exact science. Have throttle wide open. No spark plugs, check compression on all cylinders. They should be all within 1bar from eachother...

2004 9.9 Yamaha 2 stroke. Previous owner used 50 to 1, motor sticker says 100 to 1 mix. I ran it with his gas mix with only a puff of smoke when starting. What mix should I use?

100 to 1 is TOO lean...If you like your motor and your money,, stick with at least 50:1.. I would prefer 32:1 and if you start fouling plugs too often.. drop back to 40:1...

Too much experience with two cycle engines to risk running something at 100:1.. rebuilding one of these outboards is $$$$$$.. a spark plug or two is less than $10...

I have a 1993 2 stroke 40 hp mercury outboard motor and it seems that whenever you start it you need to use the choke, even when it's been running for some time and warm. Is that normal for these motors?...

Use it .It is a common thing with 2 strokes.Outboards have water in them and cool down quicker than say a 2 stroke motorbike. They have no water and keep the heat in the engine longer. If it runs well,,don't spend the money. All the choke does is gives the motor a slightly richer air/fuel mix at startup. It cannot hurt the motor.Hope this helps
