These low tank profile engines necessitate a fuel pump. Anytime you have problems starting, fill the fuel tank to full or to a level higher than top of fuel pump.

If fuel level not the problem then fuel flow, or carb fouling.

SOURCE: % hp Honda Motor runs on choke

Dear LC39B,
Is it possible you are blaming the wrong part of the machine? Did you try the Honda Motor on its own? I am asking , because if the pump of the washer has some fault or a bit jammed, this will demand a lot of power from the Honda. You can try the Honda with no water connection and no gun.
Regarding the Honda motor, you should check the electrical system also. I am saying this because you did not mention it, in your service procedure.
Regards,
MG.

SOURCE: Can't get wash fluid to mix/spray out of Honda

I BELIEVE YOUR SPRAYERS ( JETS ) ON THE WINDSCREEN ARE BLOCKED. TO CONFIRM JUST PULL OFF THE HOSE LINE BY THE JETS AND ATTEMPT TO SPRAY.,IF THE WATER COMES OUT QUITE POWERED,THEN THE NOZZLES ARE THE FAULT. WHAT TO DO,IF YOU CAN REMOVE THEM AND DROP THEM IN A VINEGAR FOR FEW HOURS OR IF YOU DO NOT USE THE CAR FOR A NIGHT AND THE NEXT MORNING BLOW THROUGH WITH A PRESSURE AIR FROM THE SPRAYING JET SIDE TO THROW OUT ANY REMAINING. FIT THEM ON AND TRY AGAIN. ALWAYS IN THE MIXTURE OF YOUR WASHERS PUT SOME ALCOHOL.

The blower will start after you go through the Full choke then it goes dead. Move to half choke. It cranks and runs wide open for 2 -4 seconde and goes dead. Does this over and over. Will not stay running....

Check the following, and then clean or replace:
  • Fuel Filter - Located INSIDE the fuel tank
  • Spark Plug
  • Spark Arrestor - at Muffler
  • Carburetor - May need a rebuild kit

17 hp briggs stratton ohc

Clean or change air filter. Clean, gap or change spark plug. Empty gas tank add fresh gas with Stabil. When spark plug is removed pull rope several times to blow out cylinder. Spray starter fluid in spark plug hole before replacing spark plug. Clean outside of carb so choke works freely. Spray starter fluid into carb breather hole with air filter removed and try to start. if running replace air filter and cover. If no start disassemble carb and clean. If no start replace carb.

Having problems keeping pressure washer running while under pressure

For Karcher washers with the Honda GC series engines it is common for them the engine to lug under pressure. For the first few minutes while it is running try keeping the choke set to about 50% - 75%. This will often help the issue. If it does then just give you washer a tune up with a new spark plug, air filter and engine oil. That will solve this issue in most cases. If it does not you will need to pull the carb and remove the main jet in the carb. It is common for them to get debri stuck in them. Use a micro drill bit to clean the main jet and re-assemble.

My 2005 450x is hard to start and when it does start it will not stay running

Install a new stock spark plug. Clean the air filter then remove and clean the carb. Drain the gas tank, clean out rust and any trash, and remove the fuel valve to clean the internal tank filters. Now install an in-line fuel filter in addition to the tank filter.

Four controls are on your bike to assist in starting. Below are generic instructions.
  • The choke, used when the engine is cold. Pull the red knob for choke.
  • The " Hot Start " Lever, used when the engine is hot. Pull the lever to lean the fuel mix when the engine has been running.
  • The de-compression lever, always used.
  • The throttle, used to prime the cylinder, (power valve).
Don't kick, instead, push the kick lever downward. You will feel the back pressure as the piston is going upward on the compression stroke to the point the pressure is great enough that the kick lever "locks up". You are very close to TDC. NOW, pull in the de-compression lever. Push the kick lever a little bit more to get the piston past TDC. Now release the de-compression lever. Give the throttle a 1/4 turn then let it snap closed. A diaphragm, (Power valve), in the carb gives a shot of gas when this is done. DO NOT do this multiple times because you will flood the engine. Leave the throttle closed when kicking. A flooded engine will often backfire. Now give a strong kick through the full sweep of the kick start lever. Quickly get your foot off the kick lever at the end of the kick to avoid any chance of "kickback" from the kick lever. This happens in the case of a misfire, aka > backfire. It can be very painful, and can even break a leg. I am serious about that. Repeat the process (but without the throttle priming), for six kicks. After six kicks go ahead and twist the throttle again for a second priming. A good battery, a clean spark plug, a clean carb and clean air filter will also aid in starting. Note that not all carbs have a power valve. When a power valve is not present you should crack the throttle open only 1/8 inch from closed on each kick.

Pressure washer with 5hp Honda will ONLY run with choke on

It sounds like it has been tipped or too much oil has been put in. This would explain the oil in the air filter. First check the oil level. Then you need to clean the oil out of the carburetor. It is dirty or plugged and that is why it only runs when choked. You can try a spray-in carb cleaner but the best thing is to remove it (if you are handy enough) and soak it in varsol for 24 hours. Good luck
