I have a Frigidaire Gallery series gas stove, We are using propane, and when we use the oven there is Soot everywhere!! and stink. I took the oven orifice out and it is a M46-58, possibly M46-56.

Is this the correct size for Propane, or Natural Gas?

The gas orifices for propane are different than LP gas. Are you trying to blow yourself up?

Generally you can drill the orifice out 7 drill sizes larger for the lp to naturall gas conversion... Start with 1 orifice and if you like the size flame repete as needed... cost.... free if you have a drill index!!

SOURCE: Whirlpool 465 Gas Stove conversion from propane to gas?

In most cases the orifices can be removed and reversed to convert from lp to natural gas. Sometimes you will need a conversion kit and you will need to look this up by model number. 465 is the oven capacity not the model number. You can locate the model number by pulling the drawer out and looking behind it. Please let me know the model and I can let you know what kit you need. Also I should let you know that your gas company is the most qualified to convert your range, and this conversion should not be attempted by anyone who is not qualified. If this conversion is not completed properly you could be risking your life and the lives of everyone in your home, so make sure you know what you are doing!! Or get a qualified person. Good luck and please be careful making any changes to your gas appliances. Please dont forget to rate me also.

SOURCE: Natural Gas to Propane for Ge xl44 Gas range

The kit is located at the rear of the range right near the gas valve, there are probably 5 spuds and an extender for the large burner, directions are with the range. For the bake and broil you will need to tighten the brass orifice nuts down as tight as possible, also the brass nut on the gas valve needs to be reversed
your local LP dealer should be able to do this for you if you are uncomfortable doing it yourself.

Black smoke coming from oven while preheating

If you are getting soot residue, it could be a number of things, First, is this a natural gas or propane oven? If you bought an oven to be used for propane, it may need to be converted from natural gas to propane or it will soot everything up. 2nd, have you recently spilled food/liquid onto the oven burner? If the burner holes are partially plugged, the remaining holes will burn large yellow flames and soot up the oven. Check the burner flames, they should be mostly blue with little to no yellow tips. Also make sure the oven burner flames are not too big. They should never exceed the width of the flame spreader pan directly above the burner, in fact they should be less than half the width. You could also have other issues like improper air shutter adjustment to the oven burner or very low regulator pressure, but most likely it has just been spilled on recently.

I have a frigidaire gallery propane stove. I just bought it a couple weeks ago. We converted in from natural gas to propane, the top works great but the ovens gives off a terrible smell whenever we use it....

THAT IS VERY COMMON,YOU HAVE TO EITHER CHANGE THE ORFFICE ON THE OVEN AS WELL OR ADJUSTED,TURN IT DOWN CLOCK WISE TO REDUCE THE GAS FLOW,THEN OPEN THE AIR FLOW WINDOW ALL THE WAY,ADJUST 1/2 A TURN AT THE TIME .....AND PRESTO

I bought gas cook stove used. I have propane gas & I don't know what kind of gas the stove was set up for. When oven is on it smells strongly of gas, food cooked in oven has black soot on it and flame...

There is a regulator behind the bottom drawer remove the drawer.look in the back you will see a silver box that the oven fuel rail is on just below the rail there is a brass fitting that needs to be turned clockwise till it stops it can be hard to turn some times but turn it till there is no clearance between the nut part of the valve and the silver box then you can start your oven and it should work fine you can also adjust it to get a little more flame if needed.

Gas oven that cooks unevenly

clean your orifaces.

Also make sure that it's the correct stove for your gas type. If you're using a NG stove on Propane, you're wrong. It's making a lot of soot, and could potentially blow up your house. Stop using it until you're sure.
