Have you tried a different disc?
Defective media is a possibility.
The other option is that there is dust/debris inside that is blocking the disc sensor. You could use some canned air to carefully blow out the area.

SOURCE: C:31:23 error with DCR-PC101 Sony camcoder

Join the other 2,000 plus people at camerahacker.com. with this exact same problem across the entire Sony product line!
some advice:
Although you will find MANY people there that solved their problem by banging the camcorder, HARD, please don't try this first.
First, open it up and take the tape out, VERY CAREFULLY! You may have one or two parts that have come loose in there, specifically a small black roller and a white clip that locks that roller on. You will see pictures of where to look and what to look for on that website. If you turn the camera upside down and shake it, gently, they may well fall out. BE CAREFUL!!! That 2 cent white plastic part and 10 cent roller cost $25 plus shipping from Sony!!! If they're there, don't lose them! Thee is ample explanation on the website about how to re-install them if this is your problem. If not, almost 80% of people on that website fixed it by banging it, give it a try!
btw, sONY REFUSES TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS OBVIOUS DEFECT! tHEIR SOLUTION IS TO SEND IT IN FOR A MINIMUM $211 REPAIR BILL, BEFORE PARTS! BOYCOTT SONY!

SOURCE: dvd player not loading

I openned mine up and found that the lens carrige was not in the fully retracted position. I pushed it all the way back to the back of the slide. Then I removed the two screws on either side of the spindle support so I could get to the lens. I hit the lens with some compressed air, plugged it in and loaded a disk and it worked like a champ. Listening to some Stevie Ray Vaughn right now!!! And going to watch some movies later. ;)

Good luck, I hope this helps someone.

I had finalize my dvd so i could download it to my computer so now i don't know how to unfinalize it could u help me

Hi, While you buy this camcoder you should get 2 disc there. 1 is Sony pictures motion browser then another 1 is enjoy dvd disc. The main softeware of your comcoder is the first disc ( Sony pictures motion browser). Just get installed it on your pc for geat and high speed download all data. Then paired your camcoder to pc and see pop menu in your pc ( it is the software). follow the instruction there to download your data)

I have a camrecorder sony handycam dcr-dvd201 when i insert the new dvd apparear an error message c:13:00 and in the middle of the lcd the symbol of the disc breaking and the eject.

From the user manual on page 6, this camcorder can only use DVD-RW or DVD-R DVDs (It can't use DVD+R, DVD+RW, etc).
Take the DVDs that you purchased back and buy the correct type.

I get a message on the screen that says, "recording disabled." How do I fix this? I have a Sony Handycam DVD/RW Wide LCD

This message appears when mini dvd disc got some error in recording tracks, if its rewritable mini disc then format it as option is available in camera settings menu and if disc is once writable then use another disc as it can not be formatted.
Caution: Format will erase/ delete all files on dvd disc and refresh the dvd disc.

Sony DCR DVD108 not finalizing disc, lost data

I noticed that too with my "VR" (and NOT "Video") formatted disks. I don't think you can finalize the VR ones. Instead you have to use the Sony Import tool to grab the videos. If you are like me you probably remember using the import tool with Video formatted disks BEFORE finalizing them and it takes forever to copy them. They must be finalized to view on other devices, copy using the import tool quicker, etc., but VR formatted disks seem optimized for importing (and can be edited on the camcorder directly.

Sony DCR-DVD108 DVD Handycam Camcorder unable to install software

I didnt know that so many people had this problem, but i can give you a little hint...
I work for Sony support, and i know that sometimes it is not on our hands to solves Sony's problems, so recently i've been on some blogs and reviews about camcorder from Sony trying to help with some issues...
This editting issue it's something common, because the camcorder records on DVDs and the format that it records on is VOB, format specifically made for DVDs, and I mean ALL DVDs, so at the end models like DCRDVD92, DCRDVD7, DCRDVD101, DCRDVD201, models that appeared between 2004-2006 doesnt come with a software that can be downloaded online, this camcorder the DCRDVD108 comes with a sw wich name is PMB wich is AVAILABLE online, (go to esupport.sony.com) , the only thing that matters is that you FINALIZE the disc and then you will be able to import the videos to the computer just plugging the camcorder to the computer and selecting USB CONNECT with a little disk icon on it, software is not compatible with Macintosh OS btw, but you can use iMovie 08 or 09.
Hope that this works for you.
