Tried to connect firewire to Pc via firewie to USB adapter. This caused total camera failure. Will not power up even on AC adapter or other batteries

Fire wire is old and never competed with USB. They may be able to transfer data, but you probably fried your camera. Possibly due to older USB format.

I assume you're asking for a manual, as in your other two questions.

You may download a free copy of the manual from here. If you must have a printed copy, you may order one from here.

Nikon S5100 not getting detected in Windows XP Home Edition. Have installed latest version of View NX2 from Nikon site. Works well with Win 7.

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

If you insist on using the USB connection, does Nikon Transfer recognize the camera?
