Have you been oiling the blades? If you ran out of oil you can use any light machine oil available at any hardware store. If you feel comfortable opening the unit you will be able to see the electromagnet inside and watch what is going on. If all else fails Buy a new set (the exact kind) and keep the receipt. Swap them out and return it from the store where you purchased it. You paid good money for them and they should not have died so quickly. The store will get full credit for it when they return it to the manufacturer so it is not that morally bad. The manufacturer should bare the burden because of the poor quality control that allowed your clipper to die in such a short period of time. Hope you find this solution helpful and the last option is a surefire fix...

Q. How do I align my blades? faq1.jpg A. ALIGNING BLADES

  1. The bottom blade holes are larger than the shanks of the blade screws. When the blade screws are loosened the bottom blade can be aligned with the top blade. Tighten the screws after the blsde is aligned and ensure that they are kept tight.
  2. The end of the top blade teeth should be aligned 1/32" to 1/16"(.79mm to 1.59m") back from and parallel to the bottom blade. It is important to align your blade properly to ensure that the clipper does not cut too close and to prevent the moving cutter from touching the skin.
  3. faq2.jpgThe extreme left hand tooth of the top blade must be covering or be to the left of the first small tooth of the bottom blade.
  4. The extreme right hand tooth of the top blade must be touching the big tooth of the bottom blade.

Q. My clipper/trimmer is making a loud "clunking" sound, is it broken? A. No, the unit is not broken. Rather, it is not properly tuned and as such it is not operating at maximum power. To adjust power (tune), turn the power screw in a clockwise direction until you hear a noise. Then, slowly turn the power screw out (counter-clockwise) until the noise stops. This is maximum power.

SOURCE: how to reassemble my wahl clipper model 8081

Okay, if you took this machine apart don't worry. You would have noticed when you loosened the first two screws closest to the blade (but still on the body of the trimmer) a small white part of the trimmer flew out...you were probably think wtf? Yeah, okay. If you took all four screws out, make sure you align the cord within its allocated space on the frame and screw in the bottom two.

1. Now, leave the top two screws about 75% loose so that you can slip the white piece back.

2. You will notice that there are two prongs sticking out of the hole where the blade is suppose to go. Make sure the "Detailer" enscribed on the front of the trimmer is facing the ground (or opposite yourself). Align the white piece so that the groves are facing the prongs and the other half of the white piece is facing yourself.

3. Slide the white piece down as far as reasonable, without forcing it. There is a little hook on the white piece, and a corresponding groove on the casing of the Detailer. Make sure that you align the white part so that the hook aligns with the groove, also make sure that you have aligned the groove on the back side of the white piece with the small round tip of the motor.

4. Okay, so this is the tricky part, you will probably be saying...the white piece is still sticking out. Well this is initally why it flew off when you took the machine apart. The blade acts a spring load for the white piece and the top two screws on the casing holds the remaing pressure forced on the white piece. What you need to do now is align the blade and its screws with the corresponding holes on the maroone casing and push the front of the blade down on the white piece and tighten the screws. The machine should now be working.

Hope this helps.

How do reassemble the blade for Wahl 8552

I had the same problem with the Wahl Pro Series Rechargeable model 8552, and called Wahl service. Here is what I learned:
Never unscrew the screws on a Wahl blade (they use those funky nonstandard screws to deter you) -- that's the main thing. The whole blade assembly is supposed to come off by pulling it up and off from the teeth.
But, if you did it (as I did), you can put it back together this way:
1. Place the large blade down on the table (Wahl logo down), and place the small blade on top of it (if you look carefully, you will see how it lines up).
2. Insert the spring points into the two holes of the white plastic part (on mine, the spring kept slipping out and I finally used a drop of superglue on each hole until it would stay in long enough to complete the assembly). Place that piece on top of the small blade (see photo).
3. The bent metal piece with the two screw holes then gets placed on top of the large blade, with the center ridge of the bent piece over the straight center portion of the spring -- so that you have to hold it in your hand and push it together against the spring in order to align the holes of the entire thing. As you are holding that, put the screws in from below and tighten. It's awkward and if you are like me, it will take several tries before you can get it all lined up correctly and tightened. The photo below is what the final assembly looks like before snapping it onto the clipper.
3. Clip it in: At the top of the assembly in the photo below, notice the small bent metal piece that will fit into the back of your clipper in the hole. Once you fit that properly, push the whole assembly down onto the clipper until it snaps into place.

Loud buzzing on Wahl "Designer" model clippers

There is a "power screw" located on the side of the clipper opposite the switch. This may need adjusting. Take a screw driver or coin....and with the unit running......turn the screw back and forth until the clipper stops making noise. The proper position for the most power is to turn the screw intil it makes a loud noise, then turn it back just enough to get rid of it.
