The number you provided looks more like an item number then a model number. Please look inside the fridge and find the model sticker usually located on the inside wall either right or left top side and give us that number. whirlpool model numbers typically look like this "WRF540CWHW" and is needed to look up what you have. Digital controls usually have the sensor within the control panel but sometimes will have a rectangular box holding the sensor. if it has a mechanical knob then that knob is the sensor.

SOURCE: ECTS location

The sensor is on the left side of the engine between cyl 2 & 3. It can be removed using a deep socket or a ratcheting box end wrench. It is a pain but can be done.

WHIRLPOOL WRF40 Solution to this problem!!! very easy ----I assume you have a problem with the control board switching on and of erratic when you pass setting 3 on the LED display, the designers of this fridge left the calculator at home that day, ask a technician to replace the Resistors 5, 6 & 7 (330 OHM 1/4 watt) on your electronic control board with 680 OHM 1/4 watt. This would solve the problems with this board, the LEDs will not be as bright as they were but still highly visible. Questions? [email protected]

CANNOT SET TEMPERATURE

Nominal tempretures for the refrigerator side are 36-38 degrees. Nominalk tempreture for the freezer section is 0-4 degrees. Your main board that controls your entire refrigeration can be found on this diagram as 1-5 http://c.searspartsdirect.com/lis_png/PLDM/50039314-00004.png
What tempreture are you trying to achieve? By setting the unit colder you also cause the unit to work harder as well shortening the lifespan of your refrigeration compressor as well as other key parts that perform to make your unit produce cold. Some key things to look for are any type of freeze up on the rear wall of the freezer which is termed as a defrost issue and if you do have this issue message me back and I can instruct you to solve this situation. I await your reply
Thank you,
Rick

faulty thermastat or on some boxes could be sensor. if unit has a rectagular plate on back side appr. 10" x 14" look for sensor located in bottom left side of freezer. replace. if not there is a thermastat located in the fresh food side where your control knobs are. both of these possibilities are simple to change. good luck.
