Question about Magic Chef Kitchen Ranges

Open Question

I’m having issues lighting my oven. The pic below is of the area where I assume the pilot is. I’ve tried pushing in the control knob but that dies not do it, I’ve tried turning the knot barely on right before the warm setting that has not worked. I have tried doing it with out doing all that. And still nothing, the gas is turned on and I have no issues with the range. This is a magic chef concept series wall oven in a 1981 mobile home. I’ve looked every where for the oven model number on the oven and there is no sticker or metal plate attached to it any where. I may be lighting the wrong spot, I’ve tried the area below the thermal couple as seen there in pic, any help would be appreciated.

SOURCE: gas oven dosnt work

the pilot light is there for 2 purposes. number 1 to light the burner and number 2 to heat up the thermocouple, thermocouple is a wire that the flame from pilot suppose to surround by fire. if the pilot is to low it will not reach the thermocouple. you can take the gas line that supplies gas to the pilot and clean it with a safety pin or a small needle. you can test the thermocouple by heating it up with a blow torch on low heat, get it red hot and then turned on the oven. if the oven works clean the pilot, if the oven do not work, replace the thermocouple if separate from safety valve. if thermocouple is part of it replace the safety valve.

SOURCE: Magic chef oven pilot light out

Hi, If the oven has a standing pilot too, Open the bottom door and locate the main burner. Follow the burner toward the rear of the oven and there will be a flame switch attatched to the burner. Hold the flame near the flame switch and the gas should ignite.
Some model do not have a standing pilot in the oven. Please get me your model number off the label located around the opening of the lower door so I can look this up and instruct you better.

SOURCE: My magic chef kitchen range oven won't turn on, no gas

Some of the models require you to push in the oven thermostat knob to set the pilot if it blows out. So try pushing in the knob and hold it while lighting the pilot. When the pilot lights continue to hold the knob in for about a minute. When you let go of the knob the pilot should stay lit. If it does not stay lit then try it one more time. If it continues to go out the thermocouple or aso might be bad and will need service.

How to light oven pilot

When the oven control knob is in the off position(vertical), turn it counter-clockwise to the next position. This is the oven pilot light. Push the knob down, and while holding down, push the red piezo ignitor button located behind the bottom plate under the oven door. This little door swings open top down, like the oven door. Push the ignitor repeatedly, while holding the knob down. If it doesn't light, or you smell gas, let it dissipate before trying again.

Can't locate pilot on vulcan lg300

TO LIGHT THE PILOT
1.Open the door. 2. Turn the thermostat OFF The thermostat is located behind the door. 3. Push the gas control valve knob and turn to OFF. Wait 5 minutes for unburned gas to vent. 4. Push and turn gas control valve knob to the "L" in PILOT. 5. While still holding the knob in, light the pilot with a lit flame. Continue to depress the knob until pilot remains lit when knob is released. If the pilot does not remain lit, repeat step 3 through 5. 6. Depress and turn gas control knob to ON

How di i light the pilot light

Be sure that the gas line to the heater is ON.

Looking at the Control Knob on top of the heater, you note that he knob has 3- positions: OFF, Pilot, ON.

Turn the control knob to the Pilot position and push down on it. If it does not go all the way in and your do not feel strong pressure pushing back at you, it is not directly in the pilot position. (Reposition the knob slightly and try again). Once You're sure the knob is directly in the pilot position and the knob is depressed, continue to hold it in and press the Ignitor button next to it. You will hear a loud click. If possible, watch the pilot assembly inside the heater when you do this. That way you can see if the pilot lit the first time. If not repeat, pushing the ignitor.

If the gas line had been turned off to the heater, the pilot may not light the first couple of tries, due to air being in the gas line. If that is the case, hold the control knob in until you smell gas, let off, wait 5 minutes and repeat the lighting sequence.

Once the pilot does light, continue to hold the control knob in for 1 minute. This will allow the Thermocouple to heat up completely. Ease off the control knob and the pilot should remain lit. If it does, turn the control knob to ON and the burner will light.

Now you're ready to set the temperature or comfort level. You do this by raising or lowering the flame height. The higher the flames, the more heat it puts out. The lower the flames, the less heat it puts out. The stripe on the knob represents the flame heights - Narrow stripe, lowest setting, widest strip, highest setting. Or your specific model may simply say Low, Medium, High.

If you do not have the Owners Manual for this heater go to http://www.desatech.com/
click on Wall Heaters and enter the Model Number of your heater. You can then download and print the Owners Manual.

Hope this helped to get you up and runnig.

Dont know how to light oven with pilot light

So-- your oven DOES have a pilot light?
Most ovens today, use ignitors-- not pilots--

However, if yours does have a pilot, Here is how we used to light ours back home many years ago.

We pushed in on the oven's thermostatic (Temperature control) knob.
(Note-- that knob connected directly to the main gas valve-- so by pushing in on the knob, we were by-passing the safety's---

There was a little hole in the center of the oven-- bottom pan...

We had to have a match lit, and ready to go when we pushed in on the knob--

We inserted the burning (Wooden) match into the hole, and 'WHOOSH'!-- the pilot lit with a rush of gas and air-- It used to scare us kids!-- But Mom was brave!

I hope this helps--
But if you need more help, let us know--

Pilot, controler and gas knob needed replacement

If you have the older Bakers pride manufactured more then 20 years ago and it has never had service, it sounds like the safety valve is defective, that's the red button you push in the light pilot, if the pilot is lit and when you turn the manual gas valve on for the main burner to lite and still it does not you problem still may be the safety and/or a failing thermocouple.
