SOURCE: Recessed handle is stuck in closed position

I would likely try WD-40 and gentle maneuvering.

How long has it been since it work and you've tried it again?

SOURCE: handle wont go to upright position

The red pedal has slipped out of position. On both ends of the red pedal you'll see metal rods (the axel of the pedal). On one side you'll see the metal rod sits into a long groove, on the other side you'll see the metal rod sits into a round hole. They both have to be in the long grooves so you have to reposition the rod that's into the round hole by pulling it out and sliding it back into the long groove above the round hole. You'll now be able to bring the handle up and lock the machine back into the upright position.

The height adjustment on a 8955 riccar machine isnt self adjusthing.

Your 8955 could be up to 17 or 18 years old. If yours is old or has been heavily used it may have a wiring short somewhere. The screw holding the handle in to the body of the vacuum might be loose which can cause the handle to not full engage the switch. Try wiggling the handle back and forth to see if it causes the power to turn on and off. Tighten the screw holding the handle in.
If the nozzle housing is restricted from pivoting freely by wear or dirt or debris the nozzle may not go all the way down when the handle is reclined back into the vacuuming position. Inspect the pivot area closely.

I paid to have ny DC07 serviced a few months ago and it still takes a few minutes to start picking up dust . Why do you think this is because I have checked it over thoroughly for blockages . This was why...

There is a selecting mechanism that engages when the handle is brought from the upright position .
It's one of the snap in parts on the right hand side which you actually see pivot when the vacuum is engaged, I just found this out with my own DC07 . When it pivots upward it is then locked in place you can also see a square black button just above the pivot nozzle,it is engaged when the handle is returned to the upright position. This directs suction to either the handle or the brush head. In my case, the pivoting nozzle was not completely engaged in an upward position. Some cleaning and adjusting solved the problem. as you said after a minute or two that the suction commences and there's the reason why, a sticking selector. Take a closer look at that section of the machine.
Happy Dysoning!

How do you replace Hoover Handle Release Pedal on

The handle pedal is snapped in to the base, where it pivots.
The pedal needs to be pried away fron the base, exposing the pivot pin to release it for removal. On your model, you will likelly have to remove the lower handle from the base (where it pivots) to get room to release and replace the pedal.

Belt not turning

Hi.

Your Dc14 will have A clutch unit.
Check that when you pull back handle to vacuum that the clutch control knob which is located front lower left side of machine moves to drive position & is not stuck in off or park position.
Rotate it to drive if its at off or park when you have lowered handle.

If adter checking this you still have no brush rotation you will need to remove clutch unit to either replace thr belts or fit new clutch.

Stuck in incline position

Hi.

If you look at the front left side of machine there is a removeable inspection port it will have 2 coloured buttons you press these in & pull it up to remove.
Now pull handle back as if vacuuming the floor.
Now where the inspection port was you will see that there is a square hole pull forward on the flap in front of square hole it pivots just behind the round rubber seal.
Slowly lift handle back up at the same time The part with the 2 long grooves in it must go under the flap as you lift handle.
