If your bobbin was in wrong you would get the "crows nest" on the underside of the fabric. There can be several thing that can cause this: your tension is to tight, for normal sewing is usually around 3-5 (check your manual for proper setting). Your needle or throat plate can have a bur on it that is snagging the thread causing it to break. Needles should be thrown away after 50 hours of sewing to avoid problems. The needle can have a slight bend (from over use) and is rubbing on the throat plate causing it to break. and finally...your just not holding your mouth right! :) (...and sometimes this is really true!). Check your tension, pull the thread, change your needle, rub your finger over the throat plate be sure all is baby skin smooth, re thread you machine...deep breath, relax and start again. try a new needle first, then if the needle doesn't line up with the needle plate, then the machine needs a ajustment or has a timing problem and needs to be checked at a sewing machine shop
try another needle and see if the needle still bends,, if the needle still does bends then there could be something wrong with the needle bar and the machine needs to be checked.
it sounds like the machine has jumped time & needs to be retimed at a sewing machine repair shop. I also suggest you throw away that denim needle, it's very lightly damaged.
Sounds like the timing is off. Take the bobbin out of the bobbin case and lower the needle into the needle plate. As the needle starts on the upswing, the hook should meet the needle just above the needle eye on most machines. If it isn't meeting at that point then your hook timing will need to be adjusted.
