Go to Control Panel and click on the Mouse icon. Then
the mouse properties will appear showing the mouse buttons. Put the pointer on the left button and then go to the drop down and make sure the buttoon is set properly.

The set point program that came with the mouse should have an option to allow you to reconnect the mouse.
Try opening up setpoint and seeing if the option is there for you.
There is actually no release button on my 5000. Between the white on-off button and the bluetooth synch button there is a finger notch. If you put your index finger in the notch (pointing toward the base of the mouse you can put your nail under the lip and the batter compartment opens right up. There is a horizontal slot in the battery cover - trying to pry that open does not work. The whole thing is well-cloaked but surprisingly easy when you figure it out!
