cant you just loop the belt over the wheel, I never take mine off

If you will go to the Singer Sewing Machine site, and enter "parts list" in the search box, you can download the parts list for your machine. To replace a part, you need the parts number.

I'm going to give you the direct link to it below. You will find the belt on page 13, #50 - Drive Shaft Belt, part #421035-001. Chances are, that belt goes on many different models of machines, and it is likely that it is available. Make sure no thread is caught in shuttle, or around bobbin case, etc. Check "plate teeth" also. Manually turn handle/wheel to engage and slow press pedal.

Is there a burning smell of rubber? Bad motor. Check warranty.

The Singer 328K "style-o-matic" is a Class 66 sewing machine with a solid handwheel. Like the 328, and most style 66 machines, this one takes Singer Motor Belt # 193077. It might be the way you're asking that's confusing the problem. It's simple to remove the hand wheel, slip the belt over the track, and then replace the hand wheel. It really depends on the model of your machine - is it by chance a 328K?
