I am trying to set up my belkin N1 vision so that it shows the name of my playstation 3 xbox 360 and psp in the display window
At the moment it shows Unknown device plus a number for each of them
same here , the only device that shows as a name is my pc, my 360 and nokia n95 just show as unknownsame here , the only device that shows as a name is my pc, my 360 and nokia n95 just show as unknown
ON mine the only names are the Wireless Laptops, my PC even shows as unknown.ON mine the only names are the Wireless Laptops, my PC even shows as unknown.
Devices show up with a correct name when they're first connected, but switch to "unknown.101" and similar pretty quickly.
Wireless devices lose their name as soon as they go out of range, but get a name again once the DHCP lease expires and a new one is issued. Wired machines have their names until the router crashes (usually a couple of days).
Could solve this by setting a shorter lease period - so the computer has to request a new one, reminding the router of its name. However, there's a problem.
Most of the computers here talk to each other on the network. If one gets a different IP, the others can't connect (given that the router's DNS server apparently doesn't resolve local names correctly, and there's no way to set a MAC-IP mapping so that the same machine gets the same address)Devices show up with a correct name when they're first connected, but switch to "unknown.101" and similar pretty quickly.

I don't quite get the DHCP Host name thing - I would like my PC's (XP & Vista) and my PS3 to reflect something othernath 'unknown.2' etc but I've look through the PC network settings and those on the PS3 and can't see anything relevent. All of these devices are wired if that makes a difference. Any pointers? DHCP Host name is what your looking for.
you need to name each item ie. psp as psp and ps3 as ps3 when you setup each item for connection. so when you setup or edit the settings for your ps3 on your ps3 you need to look for DHCP Host name and name it ps3. etc
do the same for all.

Is the Belkin plugged into a power strip or UPS? Try another AC outlet. Has the AC jack, plug in the rear or the Belkin been damaged due to pulling on the AC cord, causing a lose connection? Is your computer shut down at night? No Hibernate, No Sleep? Are their setting for the Belkin to shut down/timeout after a certain idle time? Here's a user manual: http://cache-www.belkin.com/support/dl/f5d8632-4_usermanual.pdf
Disconct wireless devices...connect to pc via cable...Go to SSID settings... change bandwidth from 20/40mhz to 20mhz only ... rebooting issue will be soloved... link speed will show 65-150 Mbps .. bt dont worry.. u will get the whole bandwidth available .... after that reconnect wireless devices ... it wont reboot by itself ...
1. check connection by 1st pinging the network card That is go to the dos window and type " ping 127.0.0.1 you should get 4 replies. if not then you need to check the driver set for you network card. 2. check the ether net cord with a know good one 3. reset the router by unplugging it and reboot the pc 4.Call your ISP to check for outages
