I've had the same problem...you can purchase a replacement lid switch at your local appliance parts store for about $35. Fortunatly, the sales person at the appliance store had diagrams and provided instructions to replace the switch. I was able to finish the job and fix the switch in less than 1 hour. Good Luck.

Check the sound of a CLICK when you close the lid door. If you do not here it then it's your LIMIT SWITCH that is broken. I had a similar problem and to get my water out quickly I removed the cover that wraps the washer and removed the limit switch and joined the two wires together so that the machine thinks the lid it closed. It is not a safe thing to do but it gives you time to go buy a new one in the mean time you can continue to do your washing. Just remember that when you open the lid door your washer will still SPIN on it's RINSE and DRAIN CYCLE. be very careful if you have KIDS. I hope this will solve your problem.

On my kenmore 90, I found out that when putting back the cabinet, the hose that is connected to the load size selector was pinched... probably affecting the vacuum/pressure. Re-assembling the unit ensuring the unit was not longer pinched solved the problem.
Justin, check or by pass the lid switch if it has one, with a insulated jumper wire.
