How to mute the dual tone beep on Nortel M7310?

When I'm not on a call I like being able to press a line that is in use to see which staff member is using that line, allowing me to know whether someone is available or on their phone. Unfortunately, this button press produces the loudest, most annoying dual tone beep. Any way to mute this sound without muting the ringer as well? Thanks!

SOURCE: Mute - Turn On??

Welcome to Panasonic :-)

The mute button works when you have a speakerphone call. That means SP-PHONE pressed and press MUTE and it flashes to let you know it's on mute.

Maybe software version 9.0 will fix the mute to work on handset calls.....

Is there an 'M' on the display? If so, that means it is in 'meeting mode.' All you have to do is press and hold the star key (*) and that will take care of it.

I have a Nortel Jazz 420 and it suddenly turned on pulse mode instead tone mode. How could I turn it on tone mode ? Pierre

Try this

Tone dialing allows your telephone to communicate with devices and services that respond to tone signals, such as answering machines, fax, or automatic switchboards. Want to learn how to switch from pulse to tone dialing on the Nortel phone? Follow these simple steps.

While on an active line, or after selecting the line, press # and the phone will switch from pulse to tone dialing. After you hang up the phone, your phone will return to pulse dialing. You may repeat these steps as needed.

All of a sudden the line lights on our nortel switch Meridian M7310 phones started blinking and the lines are dead. Any ideas?

If you only have one line, why not just lose the Nortel system? You can reuse the wiring from the phone sets to the contoller as regular inside wire, and just plug in regular phones(and maybe put the Nortel phones and controller on EBay and make a few bucks off it!)

Mute speaker on M7310

I've had Nortel Norstar m7310 phones for years and the entire time that I've them, I've never used the speaker phone. I could hear them, they couldn't hear me. At this site, I figured out how to fix that and now the speaker phone works. It created another problem. For me to use the Called ID, I would have to press the line that was calling and I would see who it was that was calling. Now, when I do that, it immediately picks up the phone versus letting see who is calling. I want to be able to both see who is calling and use the speaker phone. Thanks.

Cannot get the pulse tone off the line and that prevents from voicemail access and call forwarding HELP!

In guessing that since your lines have defaulted to pulse dialing that you have an older Nortel system such as an 8x24 or a 6x16 system. That being said you'll need to program touch tone dialing on each line.

Programming is done on M7310, M7324 and T7316 sets.
To set up ringing you need to enter programming by pressing the feature key followed by **266344.When prompted to enter the password enter 266344.
the display says A. Configuration
4 top line/feature keys are now used for programming
Press the show key (top right arrow)
the display will say1. trunk/line data
Press the show key (top right arrow) .
the display will say line 001.
Press the show key (top right arrow)
the display trunk data
press the show key (top right arrow) Press the next key 7 times(bottom right arrow) .
The display should say Dial mode: pulse.
Press the Change soft key (below the display).
the display should now say tone. press the heading key (top left arrow) to get back to "trunk/line data" repeat the steps for the remainder of your active lines
press Rls when finished

Vintage phones cannot dial out

Any standard phone should work, even phones made in 1800's should still work on a standard phone line.

I'm not sure what phone you have. The one listed in the question "M7310" is a business system phone and will ONLY work on the Nortel business phone system.

If you have standard home phones, my only suggestion (using the information supplied) is to check if the Tone/Pulse switch is set to tone... even though both should work.

Do you have phone service through a cable line?
