There should be no carboard you can see or touch after installation of any microwave.

Try replacing the screws with larger ones. Maybe you ordered the wrong piece, if your microwave comes with a mica cover (A fine, square piece of mica) and you received a plastic one, you will need to get the right piece or adapt the one you received.
You can get the mica cover on any microwave service.

SOURCE: interior cardboard/foil piece fell off revealing small chamber inside oven--still safe?

This is the mica or plastic waveguide cover. It protects the waveguide and magnetron form grease and food particles.

Assuming you're going to scrap the unit, carefully clean the area around the outside of opening (watch for sharp edges) with a lightly damp soft cloth.

Then use alcohol or a hair dryer, etc. to be sure the area is dry.

Then you can use a couple of strips of clear packing tape to cover the opening and trim it with a razor blade so only about 1/4" or so extends out from the opening.

Note that I only recommend this procedure on an oven that is going to be scrapped. If the oven will see continued use, a new waveguide cover should be purchased.

SOURCE: Set up Oster Microwave

No, that is the "waveguide cover".

It provides very important protection for the magnetron.

And always keep it clean according to your manual's instructions.

SOURCE: What is the cardboard cover inside my microwave for?

It may not be cardboard - it may be a material called mica which is located over where the magnetron is located in the unit. This is a protective cover and if it is what I think it is, do not remove under any circumstances, otherwise you may render the microwave unsafe to use.

Interior light on JVM1490sh went out. How do I replace it?

It looks like this one was not designed to be replaced by the consumer, so you would have to remove the oven from the wall, take the outer cover off, then replace the "holder assembly" which is a lamp holder, lamp, and lead wires.

It is HOLDER ASM part number WB36X102 drawing "INTERIOR PARTS (2)" reference number 1207.

To remove the oven from the wall, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

Interior light staying on in GE JVM1790 and

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch or a loose door switch mount, which are pretty simple problems to fix.

Since it's less than one year old, it would be fully covered under warranty. I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free.

You can find a GE-authorized servicer by calling GE Appliance Service at 1-800-848-7620 or here.

If it's less than one year old, it should be fully covered under warranty.

I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free or better still, if you've had it less than 30 days, I'd have the dealer replace it.

GE Customer Service is here.

It sounds like the door or door switch mounts are misaligned. It may have been damaged in shipping.

The interior light on my microwave convection oven doesn't light.

If there's no obvious removable cover over the bulb (and the owner's manual doesn't address it) some disassembly may be required.

Always unplug a microwave before removing or installing any bulbs.

On an over the range type, remove the vent grille across the top and see if bulbs can be accessed there. There may be a panel on the bottom covering the light(s), instead.

If not, chances are you'll have to remove it from the wall, then remove the outer cover. If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

Once it's out of the wall, the outer cover (wrapper) will need to be removed, just as you'll need to do on a counter top model.

Be sure to put all the screws back in the right holes, since some may be special grounding screws.

Bulbs can be had in most grocery stores, hardware stores, home improvement centers, and big box or department stores.

Many models use halogen lamps. You must not touch the new one with your bare skin, as the oils will shorten the bulb life.

Replacing the interior lamp inside the microwave on the top.

Yes, Bobby, it can be done. Before you begin, though, go to Home Depot and look in the tool department. There, ask for a "Husky Pro #66604". It's a 1/4" and 5/16" drive 90 degree ratchet that's about 4 inches long. While you're there, pick up a #2 1/4" drive phillips screwdriver bit. You'll use both of these to do the light. Both for about $12. UNPLUG YOUR MICROWAVE! Stand on a small ladder in front of the Microwave (MW), remove the 2 screws that hold the vent louver in place and remove the louver. You'll now see a black plastic grill (just above the door handle)remove the 2 screws with your new tools and remove the grill and the metal box that covers the relay. Now remove the 2 screws holding the horizontal metal panel that the box was sitting on. Now gently lift that panel up, (don't try to remove it) and you'll see the lamp. It's the one with 2 white wires going to it and a shiny metal cover over it. Place your index finger on the back of the cover of the lamp and gently pull toward you and lift at the same time. This will release the catch and allow you to pull it all the way out to get to the lamp. There ya go! Simple!
