SOURCE: No vacuum suction during normal floor cleaning operation

That door is called a valve door, and it may have broken, part #38718013. Or the valve arm, rear broke, part number 38719048. The spring part # is 38358001. Usually it is the valve arm that breaks. You would have to take the top cover off, then you can see the parts.

SOURCE: Bosch Vacuum Cleaner: I changed

Greetings from GoVacuum.com,

It sounds like you may have a bad thermal switch inside the machine. Most vacuum cleaners have a switch connected to the motor, so if the vacuum cleaner is running hot, it will shut off to prevent any damage to your motor. You did all the right things by checking the bag, making sure the hose was NOT clogged, and replacing HEPA filter.

Most of the time on canister vacuums, the reason is caused by a clog in the hose, or somewhere in the powerhead. If you're sure that there is no clog anywhere, it is going to be the thermal switch on the motor.

Here's a link to the parts schematic for the Bosch upright vacuum. I hope it helps you in determining how to access the thermal switch. A word of warning to you before you try it, this is a very tough vacuum cleaner to work on, you may want to bring it in to a vacuum repair shop, as this is not an easy repair.

Here's the link;

I accidentally vacuumed up a small plastic bag. Now I have no suction. No plastic bag is visible in the canister or the hose. What do I do?

Take my word for it, the plastic bag and / or its' remains is / are somewhere in the hose. Visibility of clear plastic in the dark environs of the interior of the hose is extremely limited if possible at all. Some hoses are corrugated on the inside especially if so on the outside. Without specificity as to brand my best first shot would be to attach the hose to the vacuum cleaners exhaust and try to blow the plastic back out the hose. The exhaust is the port from which the air comes out when everything's working as it should. Even before that, disconnect the hose from the canister, turn on the machine and see if there's any suction at the port where the hose attaches. No suction at the port eliminates the hose as the problem. If your machine will run without a bag, take the bag out and momentarily turn the machine on. Suction with no bag = bad bag. Still no suction= a trip to the vacuum service / sales store

My new Kenmoore Powermate 116 canister has poor suction. I have no pets and light dust. Its not picking up small particles on the wood floor with the floor attachment. When I put my hand to the suction it...

First of all disassemble the handle and hose as much as possible and examine the inside. Make sure there is not any significant debris lodged in the hose somewhere like a plastic bag or something.

Also check at the top of the pipe right under the handle and power switch for a circular plastic ring that rotates round the metal suction pipe. There is an empty slot in the steel pipe underneath it and in one orientation the hole in uncovered thus reducing the suction for use on delicate items like drapes. Just check that that plastic ring is rotated to the closed (full suction) position.

Kenmore Progressive with direct drive model 116.36923502 stopped picking up debris and empted it into the floor and is there something you need to do to switch from floor to using the hose. It does not...

sounds like you have a clog in your hose, full bag, or dirty filters. take the bag door off and feel inside at the bottom for suction or air movement. if you have suction there chances are its a clog in the hose. You can use a coat hanger or something similar to reach into the hose just be careful not to puncture the hose. First just try turning the unit on and stretching the hose as far as you can. try to feel for a clog and try to free it with the hose stretched.

The vacuum works on carpet mode but not floor and only when the wand is attached to the floor brush otherwise it does not work at all

Please define "works" on carpet mode" do you mean when you say it does not work at all, that it does not run, or does not have suction.
This sounds like the symptom of a clogged hose with blockage like this another vac needs to be used to draw things back out of the hose the way they went in.. Remove the hose and try dropping a penny through it . If there is an obstruction the penny will stop at that point and rattle inside the hose.

With a blockage at the hose, your power head will still lift lint and light soft dust, it will appear to have suction because the brush will sweep but the dirt will not go all the way through the hose.
Please post back to clarify if this is a vac that does not run or simpley has no suction

Vacuum not picking up dirt

The neck in your power head is likely clogged. Disconnect from the wand and look inside. Also check the wand.Since you have suction on the bare floor the hose is likely not blocked.

No hose suction with replacement bag

The Bag must be blocking the port it connects to. Remove the bag and close it up. Test it again with no bag in it. If you have suction now, the bag is blocking the port. Maybe it is the wrong type, or installed wrong.
