Could be, but often a loud banging means that drum bearings have failed. Replacement is probably prohibitively expensive if it is done professionally. The parts are expensive and it is a big job. Even though I do my own repairs, I decided it was time for a new washer when this happened.

SOURCE: agitator very noisy while washing

There is a small roller that tightens the drive belt for the drum inside this unit. If it is loose it makes a squeaking noise. Tightening this may solve your problem. You will have to take off the back panel to do this repair

SOURCE: kenmore series 80 washer makes loud knocking noise during spin cy

Unless your front loader is set firmly on concrete and leveled to perfection, the force of a heavy wash load spinning in excess of 1000rpm will create a bit of vibration and noise.A firm footing is your best defense against to much movement.
Also due to the earlier movements during the spin cycle, the shocks that are used to dampen the spin cycle might have been broken or damaged.
If the problem persists inspite of proper levelling, please do check for the shocks or might have them replaced them for good.

It's been designed to fail so that you buy an expensive part.

SOURCE: Kenmore washer (model # 110 24872300) won't agitate.

Your machine has no belt. It has a direct drive coupling. The direct drive coupling between the motor and transmission must be replaced.

Model #110.88752793. Not sure of age as it came with mobile home. I have used it daily for 1 1/2 years. Dryer works extremely well and washer did also until last night. Two washes with the same problem. On...

Run the washer without a load in it. Open the lid when it goes to agitate and see if it is actually agitating by hold the lid switch down
with a small screwdriver or a pen. You may hear the grinding noise while it's agitating, just not as pronounced. You most likely just need the "motor coupling" on the unit.

Very loud banging and clanking when the drum is spinning

If the dryer is making this noise the roller on the belt tensioner has a flat spot causing this to happen. The roller and belt are replaced as a unit. If it is the washer unit the spring has fallen off on one side of the drum which is one of two that balances the drun while spinning

Kenmore stack washer and dryer

gabehart....sounds like belt is slipping. Replace it. The water pump is on a separate smaller motor so is not affected by the agitator/spin motor.
