Have got a ALpine cda-7893r unit . . What is the headphone socket on the back for? How do I know if the aux is set right an how do I wire me ipod/phone up to it?!

Does the socket say W/R beside it? If so it is a wired remote

To get the aux working properly order an Alpine KCA-121B and you can use the AI-net connection!!

Alpine CDA 9827 using aux mode with ipod shuffle via rca inputs

Unfortunately, the rca outputs are to control an amplifier or crossover. They do make an ipod adapter for that radio, which allows you to control the ipod through the radio. Best Buy or any Alpine dealer should carry something for around $25.

How do I add an Aux input?

Does your Alpine support the ALPINE AI NET adapter?

If so, this will work;

Otherwise, you might want to get an FM Transmitter;

Auxilary RCA inputs have no volume control

Your problem stems from the fact that the CDA-7892 is not equipped with an RCA aux-input jack. If you're plugged into RCA connectors at the back of the head unit, they're outputs, not inputs. The sound you hear is just feeding back through the outputs and into the head unit's amplifier. If you want to play your iPod through this head unit, you need to purchase either the auxiliary input adapter (KCA-121B) or iPod adapter (KCA-420i).
