If this is truly an LCD TV, the problem is in the power supply. You may have a red standby light on, it may go off when power is turned on. You will need to replace three capacitors. If this TV is an LED set, repairing will be difficult, opt for a new purchase. Thanks for asking Matt of Martins TV.

If there is no power at all, then try bypassing surge protector, check power cable, and check if power cord is fused.

If unit has power but does not start, then it is on protection.

Protect mode will kicking whenever a fault is detected.

Causes that can start protect mode are:

Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.

Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.

Internal fault.
Internal fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an experienced person.
If the unit is less than one year old, or if you want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the product documentation.

Regards.

SOURCE: Have lcd tv samsung. Had a power surge now tv will

If you get no standby light or error blinks, the power supply board is bad. Most likely the power surge will take out some capacitors on the power supply. Replace the power supply board to solve the problem. This is a common failure caused by a power surge.

Note: If you are looking to do it the cheap way, you could try looking for bad capacitors (visually inspect for ones that look "bubbly") and replacing just those but it is not guaranteed to fix the TV as the power supply could have other issues and just cause the capacitors to bubble again.

SOURCE: power surge hit my surge protector with my 'sony tv hooked to it.

Well, the power supply may be still damaged by the surge, what may happen is that when first surge happens the surge protector protect your TV by sacrifing itself but then the second surge comes along, since the protector already blown up then the surge will just come right through to the TV on the second surge. That is bad problem for the surge protector that sacrify itself but can only do it for ONE time.

Sony Bravia built in DVD player wont accept the discs - why is this?

Performing a power reset
1. Turn off the television.
2. Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
3. Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
4. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
NOTE: If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
5. Turn on the television.
How to establish an HDMI connection between a TV and other device.
Follow the steps below if the HDMI® connection between your TV and other device is not working:
1. Make sure both the TV and other device are turned on.
2. While turned on, unplug the power cords for the TV and device from the electrical outlet.
3. Disconnect the HDMI cables from the TV and other product.
4. Wait 60 seconds.
5. While the HDMI cables are disconnected, plug the power cords back into the electrical outlet.
6. Turn on the TV.
7. Re-connect the HDMI cables.
8. Turn on the HDMI-connected product.

The TV should now detect the HDMI signal from the connected device and operate normally. If there is still a problem, disconnect the HDMI cable from both products and then reconnect it in the opposite direction. In some situations this has been reported to resolve connection issues.

I was watching my tv when my son hit the reset button on my surge protector..now my tv will not turn on. Any ideas?

Turn everything off, the tv the power and make sure the button is not active at the moment. Some surge protectors do come with a fuse but when you turn the surge protector back on itself make sure it is recieving power, there is usually a red light on the switch while recieving power. Then try again once you know there is power to it.

Tv does not turn on after a thunderstorm and several attempts at power returning to the home. The power went on briefly then shut off several times, now the television will not turn on. We had the tv...

Check the main fuse in the power supply, the TV also has small surge protection devices (MOVs) installed after the fuse, any surges the come along and big enough will cause the main AC fuse to blow. When you surge protector, EVERY connections must go through the surge protector, for example, the AC cord of the TV is connected to the surge protector, the cable connection did not go through the surge protection, the surge then can get to the TV through the cables.

Does my samsung tv keeping turning itself off because of not having plugged it into a surge protector or is it more a fault with my tv

It is a fault with your power supply module actually inside the tv...take it to a local service center or if its under warranty take it back. surge protectors help prevent issues like this occuring due to damage to the power supply from surges but not having one wont cause these problems unless it has recieved a surge.....in future i would use a surge protector on all your expensive appliances, surges and power fluctuations are very common in mains power i live near the mines and we have power problems all the time!! hope this helps, ben

No power on Samsung TV after storm

Hello Zkarim,

I'm very sorry to hear about your unfortunate new's. I had the same problem in my own home maybe a week ago.

Basically if your power flickered on and off at anytime during this storm then there was a power surge that probably fried your TV.
* First check the power where the tv was plugged in. Is it a power strip or a surge protector ? Surge protectors typically have an on/off switch and a separate reset push button.

If it is a power strip then the tv fried because there was nothing to stop it from happening (not even the fuse). If it was plugged into a surge protector then it could be quiet a few years old and not as reliable or the surge was to powerful for the limit on the surge protector.

The only thing you can do personally is send it in for repair if it's under warranty, if it is not then you can have it looked at by an authorized repair technician in your area. Troubleshooting should be fairly low, and you will at least be able to find out your options once they find the defected part.

Thank you for choosing Fixya!

When I turn sony kdl32m4000 on, green power light comes on but

I understand that your TV is turning ON but you're not bale to view the videos on the TV screen. If the TV is connected to a wall outlet through a Surge protector please disconnect the connection through the Surge protector and try connecting the TV to a working wall outlet and check if that helps. Please check the connection between the TV and the connected device. Please try using a different device and check if that helps. This is to check whether the issue is with the TV or the connected device. Please try to explain the issue as much as you can next time. What are the video sources connected to the TV? Does this issue occur with the TV when connected to other devices? How did you connect the videos sources to the TV? Which connection are you using to connect the devices to the TV? You TV doesn't support 1080p resolution, so please check whether the connected device is giving output in 1080p resolution. If the issue still persists service of the TV is recommended.
