In order to solve this issue try the below mentioned step:
1. If you have a photo paper tray installed just above the main tray, pull it back towards you otherwise it blocks the paper feed.
This should resolve your paper feed issue.
Could be a tab or spring broken off of the feed tray, dirty feed roller can cause that error when paper doesn't feed. Paper guide too tight so that paper can't lift to the feed roller also a possibility. Sensor above paper stack out of position.. many possibilities.
Your paper feed source is wrong .Go to the printers control panel and change the feed source.
If all you do is 8.5X11 you can go into the maintenance tab and choose it to automatically change paper trays by selectin auto continuous feed.Make sure paper is in both trays of the same type and size. You will hear the printer try and grab the paper three times then it will automatically switch to the next tray.
I have encountered this error before. Printers have a sensor on the trays to detect the level of the paper in the tray. First try fanning the paper that you have in there. At time when the printer try to feed a paper and it has a hard time picking the paper up, it may display the no paper error message. Fanning makes the sheets of paper separate from each other making the paper pickup and feed process easier for the printer. And if there are adjustable levers around the paper in the tray, make sure they are snug around it. This helps the printer identify the paper size that's in the tray.
Had a similar problem with the MFC-885cw. Turns out that , if you have a photo paper tray installed which sits just above the main tray, you need to puill it all the way back towards you otherwise it blocks the paper feed. Not the best design feature I've ever seen.
This is a common issue. Here is the solution: Pull out the paper tray On the left of the feed roller there is a black piece of plastic that is a sensor. It is jammed forward. Gently bend it out to the left and push it back until it snaps back into place.
