Hey all, I bought an iPod with this known problem hoping I could get it working...I'll get to the point: iPod is formatted Windows, Wall and car charger--works, charges fine iPod functions normally. But on a PC USB I get "Device not recognized." In hardware manager it shows as Unknown Device. Plugging in to USB wakes iPod up, but that's it. Plugged into Mac--same thing. Seems it connects in a way that wakes it up (senses hanshake challenge voltage), but the computer can not get any info from the iPod about what kind of device it is and therefore it can't sync with iTunes, nor can it appropriate voltage to charge, since the computer doesn't know what it's looking at.

I have connected the device to multiple computers, both PC and Mac, as well as a PC laptop which has never had iTunes on it, to which I dowloaded the latest iTunes software. Still same result: computer identifies that there is a device connected, but can't identify what it is.
I am having the same problem, and I have used a new USB cable. Any other ideas.
