If you are more than just a beginner you can attach that drive to your PC and run a drive copy program that will create an exact image of your current drive. Once that is created then you can add the new drive to the computer make sure your system recognizes it and can boot from it. I have done this many times.

My step father actually copied the original drive to the ssd, but there is a boot up error saying that the computer shut itself down to prevent damage. It gives me the option of it running system recovery to try and fix it, then it goes back to shutting itself down, or starting it normally, which shuts it down as well.

SOURCE: reinstalling windows xp on a new hard drive - Thinkpad t30

If you can get your hands on a Windows XP cd, it will partition and format the drive for you allowing you to install from scratch. You would then just plug in the license key from the sticker on your laptop. As far as the recovery disk on the original CD, there might be an option on bootup that would have you push an F key to access it. Or you can usually order them online. It's not too hard to get the drivers you need from online so I would just go with any XP disk you can get your hands on. You'll be using your own license so you can even borrow one.

if you have a windows xp disc when you start to install it it will have to format it first by default unless you ask the cd to repair windows in which case it just over writes the files and registry

Hello, can anyone explain the right process to move operating system to an SSD?

Some third-party migration software does work! Here I recommend free software AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard. It can move your Windows 10 to the new SSD easily and safely. You can boot from the SSD by changing the order in BIOS.Check the detailed guide following:

I reinstalled windows 7 and my office program is missing

Windows 7 does not come with office. The office you had was a reduced version installed by compaq, you need the
System Recovery Kit for Consumer Notebook (3 Discs). To reinstall all the stuff that comes with it new.

Operating system not found

No, you won't get the OS to automatically install on the new drive. The OS is not stored in the BIOS chip (or a similar permanent location inside the computer). You will need an OS install disc (not an upgrade disc). Windows Vista Home Premium or Basic was the original OS on most of the Acer Aspire 4530 series. Acer appears to have drivers for the system for XP through Windows 7 to get the hardware to work. You will need to have these most of these ready before you install your OS. Put them on a flash drive or optical disc using another computer.

This computer may work with Unix as well. However, driver issues may be a factor. You can try most versions of Unix from a CD (LiveCD) to test it out.

When you get a new hard drive, install it into the laptop. Then put the OS disk in the optical drive bay. Boot to the optical drive. Follow the directions for formatting the hard drive and installing the OS. (Of course you will need a drive that doesn't have a higher capacity than the BIOS supports.) The motherboard needs to recognize the drive.

If you find a member of a Windows User Group, they may have Windows install discs available. The license number on the label of your computer will probably work as your license key. (The key for a computer like this is locked to the CPU and motherboard; unless someone upgraded the OS to Windows 7 or downgraded to XP, this should be the key you need.) Use the information on the label to obtain the correct version of Vista (the Basic install disc may not work for installing Home Premium). You also need to match the 32-bit or 64-bit install disc (and the service pack you need).

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(An Acer recovery disc wouldn't help you. Most of those are completely locked to the original hardware (including hard drive) and look for the recovery partition that was on that hard drive.)

Compaq Presario CQ57 has red screen with compaq logo on start up and wont go past that screen even when pressing f-buttons

The hard drive has issues or the windows files have been corrupted, remove the hardware and reseat it back in place sometimes this will activate the system, next! use your backup recovery disc if you have one, no change! the hard drive will need to be tested.

How do i re install windows xp on my compaq presario 5000

If you place your XP OS disc in the DVD/CD drive and boot from it, let the OS disc format your hard drive and there you are, when it has finished, all done. XP on your hard drive.
All you have to do then is try and find the drivers you need. Good luck as XP is no longer supported.

How to load new ssd for eee pc

By SSD I assume you are refering to a Solid State Drive to replace your existing hard drive. If this is the case you need to install the drive and then boot off the CD that came with your computer and reinstall the operating system. Note that all you old info will still be on the original hard drive but you can still access it by purchasing a 2.5 inch USB hard drive enclosure. When you plug it into a USB port it will be detected as a second hard drive.
