SOURCE: My KitchenAid tilt head lock

In my case the lock was not engaging fully because the internal mechanism was bent too short. I'm not sure if this happened over time or if it is just a manufacturing defect. If your mixer still has some up-and-down play to it when the lock is engaged, then you might have the same problem as me

To fix it, search this site and others for instructions on how to remove the motor cover. I found this video useful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeCiivPt7hk

With the cover removed you have access to the locking mechanism. In my case, the latch is connected to the locking lever via a bent S-hook. The hook was just slightly too short which kept the latch from engaging completely. If you remove the two screws holding the hook in place and that allows the lock to close completely, then you have the same problem as me. (You'll feel the difference immediately. When fully locked, there is practically no wobble in the mixer head.)

I lengthened the hook by placing it against a flat surface and hammering the bend out a bit.

Will a new shifter fix a problem where the old shifter will not stay in reverse?

Sounds more like a linkage issue. Try tightening the linkage links, replacing any loose bushings. (The detents, or stopping points, on the shift lever have little do do with the shift lever.)

I have a 1989 300zx manual trans. Will not shift in to reverse what coud be the problem

Sounds like linkage from shift lever to transmission or the bushings on the linkage points. A "sloppy" shift lever with similar bushing problems may be the problem.

How do you tighten gear lever on cortina 1600e thanks

Inspect Linkage between shifter and transmission. Determine where the sloppy looseness is. Replace sloppy linkage parts if transmission lever is not loose. Pray you don't need to have shifter leverage (inside transmission) repaired.

Front wheels out of alignment steering is hard to turn

Sounds like you got a Murray, Yardman, etc. Steering system is of very poor quality. Front axle has plastic bushing on spindles they break and don't take much abuse. Spindles bend very easy and so with these conditions steering becomes hard and unpleasant. Front axles are not there strong point. Jack up front of mower and check for loose, sloppy wheel conditions. Go from there. New bushings and parts are available at varies places. Best repair would be to think about a mower with a strong front axle. Cast iron, steel etc, rather than a stamped out thin metal one that will always give you problems. Who doesn't bump trees, curbs, yard ornaments etc.

Shifter is very loose, sloppy.

The shifter linkage has a two piece plastic / nylon bushing at either end of the gear shift tube that goes from the gear shift lever to the transmission. As the bushes wear through normal usage the gear shift becomes sloppy. The bushes at the gear shift lever end usually wear out first.
You may have to drop the exhaust pipe to access the underside of the gear lever as there is not a lot of space to work in above the exhaust.
To replace, remove the securing nut and through bolt where the underside of the gear lever U section attaches to the tube. Pull down the tube and the worn bits of the bush will come out. Place the new bushes in either side of the tube and put tube end back between the U section. Replace the through bolt and nut. If still a little sloppy, you may have to do the transmission end bushes as well.

Unican combo lock handles are loose

If the handle has been forced their is a part inside that is broken and it appears as if the handle is loose. I have priced the replacement parts and they were over 75% of  what I could purchase the whole thing for ,so I elected to purchase new and go with the direct replacment model L1000 (Lever) to make it ADA compliant at the same time.
