I'm having difficulties with a new iMac with 10.5.7 loading pages through the ethernet connection (GT704-WG). They take forever. ISP support thought it might be a compatability issue between new iMac and the modem specifically related to new iMacs and limited to only Actiontec modes. The same ethernet cable works fine on my windows machine. The new iMac works fine on my Airport. Apple support said could be cable issue, modem compatability issue, or ethernet card in computer. If it is a compatability issue that others are having, I don't want to spend a half-day taking my iMac to have the ethernet card checked. Any ideas of what the problem/solution might be? Thanks, Roy
I have seen this before and this has cured it:
Check the DNS settings in the Network panel and enter a manual DNS that matches the base address of the router (192.168.0.1 for this router).
System Preferences > Network > Ethernet > Advanced > DNS. Click the + sign and add 192.168.0.1. Click OK, and click Apply on the next screen.

This suggestion didn't work with the ethernet connection. Diagnostics said internet connection appears to be working correctly. Wireless works fine. Thanks.
