SOURCE: Scanner Imaging problem

Your scanner’s lock switch may be locking up the carriage unit. Depending on the model you own, your scanner’s lock switch resides in one of two locations. You can find it beneath the scanner itself or in a corner next to the scanner bed after you lift the lid. The switch should be marked with a locked and unlocked padlock symbol; slide the switch to the unlocked padlock to unlock the carriage unit.
It’s also possible that the supplied USB cable is improperly connected to your computer. Connect the cable directly to your PC. Canon’s online documentation indicates that scanners that connect via a USB hub may not work properly. Once you have unlocked your scanner and properly connected it directly to your computer, try to rescan the image.

SOURCE: ADF jam

Turn off printer and unplug it from power supply.
Check ADF if it appears to be damaged ( open the top portion so that you can check the mechanisms ) unplug the ADF cable from back of scanner and replug it, replug power cable, turn it on and try scanning using adf again.

SOURCE: BLACK LINE ACROSS THE COPY CANON IMAGE 2200

Most likely your drum unit is worn out. If it reaches the yield of 50k or more, it starts to develop grooves in the drum and toner gets stuck in the groove and is applied to your pages. If you have a service company, they can change it for you. We sell the drum for $220.

SOURCE: My Hp Officejet 7210 will not scan, fax or feed

I also was not able to copy, scan or fax multiple pages through the ADF of our HP Officejet 7210 AIO, but it would print well from our computers.

It would either grab several pages at once, or not grab paper at all. The feeder was trying but had poor traction action. Not sure if that's the same situation for you, but this is what fixed ours:

I purchased part number C7309-60091 feed roller assembly, and part number C7309-60076 separation pad from Encompass Parts, and replaced them. The ADF works great now.

Our HP Officejet 7210 had only 3,000 pages printed on it, which didn't seem like enough to wear out the separation pad or feed roller in the ADF, especially since all those pages didn't go through the ADF, so I figure it's because of our very dry environment. Hope this helps you.

Why is there a line on the left side of my copy when I use the ADF on my Canon Image Clas D1150? It does not do it when the flatbed is used. Please help. Thanks, Joann

When lines appear on copies of documents fed through the ADF, it typically means that there is some kind of dirt or foreign material on the glass that the document passes over. A different window is used when scanning from the ADF as opposed to the flatbed. The flatbed window is large, often much larger than a standard sheet of paper. The ADF window, on the other hand, is small and slender. It doesn't need to be large because the document moves over it (as opposed to the flatbed, where the document is stationary while the scanner moves under it).

The ADF window is usually situated next to the flatbed glass on the side of the scanner where the ADF takes in the paper. Open the scanner lid (as though you were going to make a copy on the flatbed) and find the slender piece of glass just under where the ADF would be when the lid is closed. Once you've located the ADF glass, use a mild glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth to gently clean the surface of the glass. If you are able to see the foreign material, you can remove it by hand, but be sure to clean the glass thoroughly afterwards, as fingerprints can also cause poor quality copies.

After the glass has been cleaned, test the ADF copy function and make sure the line has disappeared. If it has not, you may need to remove the slender glass and clean the underside (though this is almost never required, as the underside is protected from environmental debris).

When I fax it copies a black line is on the page. And when I copy from the top part it copies a black line. How can I fix that?

are you getting black lined copies while you are trying to send a fax or black lined images are obtained at the receiving end. Is there any problems while copying from platen glass. if it's ok, then check if there is any thing on the stream reading glass (the small sized glass plate meant for ADF) & clean it.

I have Brother MFC 7820N when I send a fax the pages been received has a black vertical line in the middle of the page. If you could tell me please what kind of maintenance i have to do to eliminate this...

Most likely the cause is something stuck to your ADF scanner glass but let's do a few tests first.
Make a COPY with your machine using the document feeder. Now make a copy of the same document by laying the document down on the glass. One or both of these copies should have the black line. If they do not then there is nothing wrong with your machine. If the copy made from the Document Feeder has the line but the copy made from the Glass does not then the trouble is with your ADF scanner glass which is quite common. Just look to the left of your large main glass. You should see a thin strip of glass runing front front to rear. This is your ADF scanner glass. On some models this glass is contained inside the ADF feed unit. Just cleaned the glass thoroughly with a soft cloth and some glass cleaner.
Now if by chance you get the same line from both then you may have debris on the scanner mirrors. The scanner unit that travels back and forth under the glass would need to be cleaned if this is the case. The glass would need to be removed and then you can clean the small mirrors in the scanner using cotton tip swabs.
Most likely tho it is just the ADF scanner glass. This is true because this glass has documents traveling over it and sometimes specks of dirt, whiteout or other materials get deposited on it.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Canon MX850 printer - ADF copy has black line on it

Hello, my name is Steve,.
This is a common problem and an easy fix.
If you lift the ADF / top cover assembly up, you will see a small narrow piece of glass next to the flat-bed glass.

Ths is called a "Slit-glass". The only purpose is to read content from that point by the scanner, The Scanner will sit in the underside of it.

It is dirty. Wipe this with glass cleaner and a soft lint-free cloth. you may need to do this several times. Concentrate the part of the glass were this image problem is just by the orientation of the document you are installing with the direction of the document you are passing through the ADF.

It will take several attempts, but with each try, make a new test from the original document, unyil the problem disappears.

I believe this will solve your problem, Best , Steve

ADF not working.

if the black line shows only when you use the ADF, lift the whole document feeder, and look on the very left of the glass (the area onto which the paper is travels from the ADF). Check that the glass is clean in that area.

On the ADF:
Open the small ADF cover on the top right. There you will see rollers and a paper sensor. First make sure the isn't any paper stuck in the rollers. Clean the rollers with a damp cotton pad or cloth a small amount of dish washing detergent. Make sure it is damp. Then check to make sure that the paper sensor lever is working by toggling it. The paper sensor is spring loaded, check that the spring is in place.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Black lines

Here you go.
1. Put a paper on the glass don't use the ADF see if you printed copy has a black line on it.

If you do not have a black line on it, do the following.

Lift up the ADF tray go in to additional functions #6 Adjust/Clean and then #2 clean the ADF feeder.

The roller is in the top of the ADF feeder at the right and is white in color. When you press the (set) button you will see it spin.

Also clean the glass you have some whiteout on it. (Look at the glass real good when cleaning it).
