How to fix Blank Device manager

RESOLUTION:
==========

----------------------------------------------------------------------
CREATE A RESTORE POINT BEFORE ANY OF THESE STEPS
----------------------------------------------------------------------

STEP 1:
======
Check if Plug and Play service is started.Check the settings of the same in the
registry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PlugPlay

ImagePath = %SystemRoot%\system32\services.exe
ObjectName = LocalSystem
PlugPlayServiceType = 3
Start = 2
Type = 20

STEP 2:
======
Advanced cleanboot (316434) and Hardware cleanboot (SOX051008700004)

STEP 3:
======
System restore (306084)
If we know when the issue started, read the system restore point information for
that day prior to trying the restore

STEP 4:
======
Look for the update KB905749 and try uninstalling it. Be sure to shut the system
down and wait 10 seconds before restarting.

STEP 5:
======
Go to safe mode - check for bangs in hidden devices in System devices - Uninstall
PnP BIOS Extension and any other device having a bang

STEP 6:
======
- Follow SOX041029700032
check the permissions on
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_RASAUTO
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_RASAUTO\0000
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_RASAUTO\0000\Control
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_RASMAN
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_RASMAN\0000
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_RASMAN\0000\Control
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_TAPISRV
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_TAPISRV\0000
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_TAPISRV\0000\Control

If Administrators is listed, then remove Administrators. The default permissions
for these keys are:

System : Full Control : This key and subkeys
Everyone : Read Only : This key and subkeys

Change the permissions so that they apply to "This key and subkeys" and not just
"This key only".

STEP 7:
======
We could try to register the following files
regsvr32 devmgr.dll
regsvr32 dmocx.dll
If the files are missing, extract a copy from Windows XP CD-ROM or the
ServicePackFiles folder

STEP 8:
======
Copy the following on a notepad.Save it as dev.reg.Double click on the same.Restart
the computer.

I got this computer from my grandmother because myn melted literally. But she downloaded k9 web protection and had it on the highest security setting there is.it only allows facebook and certain other...

I found this on superuser link at the bottom.
No third party software required. Tested with K9 Web Protection version 4.4.268 on Windows Vista SP2 (32-bit). Confirmed by @stiemannkj1 to be working on Windows 7. Should also work on Windows 8.x.
  1. Create a new text file. Copy and paste the following batch script code, then save:@echo off set keys=^ "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Blue Coat Systems"^ "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\k9filter.exe"^ "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Blue Coat K9 Web Protection"^ "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\bckd"^ "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\bckwfs" REM remove registry keys for %%G in (%keys%) do reg delete "%%~G" /f >nul set folders=^ "%programfiles%\Blue Coat K9 Web Protection"^ "%programdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Blue Coat K9 Web Protection" REM remove folders for %%G in (%folders%) do rd /s /q "%%~G" set files=^ "%windir%\System32\drivers\bckd.sys" REM remove files for %%G in (%files%) do del "%%~G" pause exit /b
  2. Make sure file extensions are shown and rename it to RemoveK9.cmd (or whatever you like, as long as it has the .cmd extension).
  3. Restart Windows in Safe Mode.
  4. Right-click the .cmd file and select Run as administrator from the context menu. Wait for the batch script to finish.
  5. Start regedit.exe and navigate to the following registry key:
    <code>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_BCKD Right-click the LEGACY_BCKD key and select Permissions from the context menu. Click Advanced and select the Owner tab. Then select Administrators from the owner list, tick the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects option, and then click OK. Then select Everyone and tick the Allow checkbox for the Full Control permission. Click OK, right-click the key and finally choose Delete.

  6. Restart Windows.

Errors

solution 1>
CAUSE:
Certain HP services (and associated DLL files) were somehow partially/improperly installed. (Possibly, from a previous failed install?)
The Windows services (files) were:
Pml Driver HPZ12 (C:\Windows\System32\HPZipm12.dll)
Net Driver HPZ12 (C:\Windows\System32\HPZinw12.dll)
The existence of these 2 files in the System32 directory was causing this error in my situation. Somehow, the installation script was not identifying that these files were already installed (or improperly installed) and failing to properly set them to be installed again.
SOLUTION:
Steps:
1) Check to make sure that the 2 Windows services above are not running (or not installed).
2) Rename/delete the 2 associated service DLL files (this will only be possible once the services are stopped)
3) Run the installation again.

J6480 fatal error 2753 MSI.dot4wrp during full driver install. I tried uninstalling al related hp drivers, all the HP advice. Disabled firewall, services etc. Do you have a solution that works?

you can try with installing the windows installer 4.5 and then try.. otherwise reinstalling windows might work because the error you are getting is related to installer.. and its a service of windows itself which is responsible for all the software installation..

HP Deskjet D2360

First, try running the installation as Administrator. Right click on the executable and select Run as Administrator. If that doesn't work, go to that registry entry and make sure that System and Administrators have Full Permissions.
