I had put a Sears 100-300 zoom (older model for my K1000) on my K100D and it sorta stuck when I took it off (I queried Sears about it being used and they said it would work just fine but no auto focus-dah).
It seems to take pictures fine but the view through the eye piece is dim. I can't tell if it is in focus because of it being so dim.
Any answers?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, this may help
http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/24160-help-reset-diaphragm-release.html
If you could send me - or post those pictures you have of the mechanism that would be great.
I also have the link for the service manual for the samsung version of the k10 - it shows how to open it up. Let me know if you want that?
The lens you are talking about has either:
1)a faulty diaphragm mechanism ( lens stays closed at f 22 or f 16 when you attach it to the camera instead of opening fully as it should ) . or
2) the lens is fine but the diaphragm coupling mechanism inside mirror box ( on the left hand side if viewed from the front ) is not engaging the lens properly so that your lens stays fully closed ( F 22 /16 ) : because diaphragm stays fully closed image in viewfinder appears v. dark.
Solution ? have a camera technician take a look but my guess is that the diaphragm needs cleaning and it should not cost you more than $ 80 bucks.

Sorry, I should have been more elaborate. After I removed the Sears lens I put back on the Minolta 50mm that came in the kit.
After shooting more in daylight directly at a bright source, the picture are dark as well. So I would say your assessement of the coupling device is correct.
Are you aware of any service manuals for this model. I am disabled and don't drive much anymore, but I am an analog electronics tech and build detailed models as a hobby so I have no fear of taking anything apart...
Thanks again

I have the same problem with my Pentax K10. It isnt the lens on mine, it is the diaphragm release. The diaphragm release is up and should push down o open the diaphragm on the lens. I know what the problem is but not how to fix it. Any help on how to get into it would be greatly appreciated.
