Check the fan that is supposed to blow the hot air into the drum. It may be seized or jammed. It should be situated on the top of the outer drum. You will need to remove the top cover from the machine and identify the blower fan.

SOURCE: when the dryer gets hot it turns off, the dryer does dry

Hello,
Here is a link for an exploded view of your dryer

http://www.pcappliancerepair.com/model-display.php

You may have a bad thermal limiter item # 1236 and your thermal safety switch is cutting in to disable power to your heater before it causes a fire. You may have a bad power resistor item # 1114 as well. Difficult to say which component is defective without being able to take measurements.. Hope this gets you headed in the right direction. Please remove or disable power before attempting to trouble shoot ( if you are doing this yourself)
Regards,
Rick

SOURCE: whirlpool Electric dryer

If the heating element is getting very hot that means there is no air flow across it. If the drum doesn't turn then the blower is not turning causing the element to get very hot. Could be drum belt, drum rollers, or motor.

SOURCE: dryer modle Tc7102w/t5c7102s was working ok but drum won't rotate

Theres two things to look at, the brushes on the motor, replaceable and cheap, if they are are healthy then there is one or sometimes two large capacitors, these give the motor the ooomf to get it rotating, these fail which is a common problem with washing machines and dryers, again about £5= on ebay.

SOURCE: I have a samsung dryer

This photo is from a Samsung DV409AEW, but I assume they are quite likely the same. I also turned the drum (clockwise, which is the wrong way) and the same thing happened. The thud in my case was the spring that holds the tension pulley arm in place falling to the bottom of the dryer. If your situation is the same, spinning the drum caused the belt to come off of the idler pulley and the tension spring fell off. It seems to happen frequently based on web searches.
Again, assuming the DV409Axx is the same, you can get at it from behind. There should be 3 screws (2 on the top and 1 on the bottom) of the plate that holds the vent pipe output assembly. That assembly can then be removed. There will be a vent pipe extension that comes out with the assembly.
Once inside, see if the spring is off, and if so re-attach it per the photo below. It is counter-intuitive that the spring pulls the arm down, rather than to the left. Hopefully this will be your issue.
Putting the pipe extension and outlet assembly back in can take a bit of fiddling... but if you lay on the floor, you can actually shine a flashlight in the crack to see what you're doing.
Hope this helps!

I want to know how hot my dryer gets. I do not have temp. controls on my model

Good Morning Tabitha,

I see that you are looking to see how hot your Frigidaire dryer, model# FER311FS, actually gets, due to you not having temperature controls on your particular model. Being that you have just the timed dry cycle, it provides up to 100 minutes of drying time at high heat for regular and permanent press items. When drying permanent press items, turn the cycle selector to 40-50 minutes. This is the average time needed to dry most loads of permanent press items. The load tumbles without heat during the last 10 minutes of the Timed Dry cycle. Use this setting to refresh clothing, pillows or blankets or to dust draperies. Heat-sensitive items such as plastics, foam rubber or similarly textured rubber-like materials or items containing feathers or down should be dried only with this setting. Hope this is helpful.

Sounds like the drum is not turning under heavy load.this is a common problem with dryers but usually easily remedied if a competent diyer. first check the theory by putting in big load and see if drum turns. if not then replacing capacator should cure it.

Overheating and Won't Start

Does your dryer run at all? If the drum turns, but the dryer does not heat, click on the follwing link for advice:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r630242-dryer_runs_but_not_heat

Now, if your dryer does not run at all, you can use this link for more thorough information:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385301-thorough_dryer_advice

I'm sure you've already made sure the dryer vents are clean, but if your dryer is running extremely hot like you mentioned, it usually means there is insufficient air flow. If you have ensured all the external duct work is clear, you may still have a clog INSIDE the dryer. In addition, if you are in the habit of pushing the dryer all the way up against the wall, you may be crushing the dryer vent hose to the point where it cannot push air. I mention most of this in these write ups. Please take the time to read through the information. If you have any questions, need help in diagnosing the problem, or assistance in locating parts, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Clothes not drying

A couple of possibilities to check. First, is the lint trap empty? If so, then the symptoms point to hot air bypassing the drum. Look for broken or misaligned plastic ducting inside the dryer itself. Check the exhaust air for moisture, as that is a better indicator than temperature. Don't forget that towels hold an enormous amount of water, & can be extremely long in drying, especially if not spun enough.
