I'm having a similar problem. When I connect the VN-4100PC to my XP computer, it doesn't automatically recognize it and link up. And if I open the software app, it doesn't recognize that the Recorder is connected to the system. I've update to the latest version, rebooted, reinstalled and don't know what else to do.
I've seen this same complaint elsewhere. Does anyone know if there's a workaround anywhere?

Well ive been having the same problem and managed to solve it on my own because olympus isnt very much help.
Im using window 7 at the moment. I had all their drivers and software that they claimed was needed but the real fix was going into device manager when the DVR is plugged in, right clicking the DVR and click on update drivers. Select the option for it to search automatically online and once it has completed, open up "digital wave player" and the device should show that it's connected. Transfering and viewing files can now be done.
This worked for me, hope it helps others aswell.
