With the introduction of Windows Vista, mapping network drive to the Novell server without using the Novell Vista Client is still possible. In order to accomplish this, you have to make some changes with the way Vista authenticate.
•Open Control Panel
•Administrative Tools
•Local Security Policy
•Local Policies
•Security Options
•Double-click on Network Security: Lan Manager Authentication Level
On the drop down box, you want to change/select “Send LM & NTLM – use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated”
Note: The above menu driven is available with Vista Ultimate, Vista Business and Vista Enterprise. If you don’t have that version, you can run regedit and modify this key:
•[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa] “LmCompatibilityLevel”=dword:00000001
Once this is done, from windows explorer, you can click on map network drive and fill in the pertinent information such as \\servername.sscnet.ucla.edu\share.
•If you Windows local account is the same as your Novell login ID, then you don’t have to do anything.
•If it is different, you can choose to login using a different user name.

My Vista machine can't see the iomega network drive

You need to connect to the IOmega drive using windows xp and add a user.
In the explorer view in Vista at the top click on Map Network Drive.
At the bottom click "Connect using a different username" and enter the credentials that you created earlier.
In the box above for the location type in "\\IOmega's IP Address\Folder that you want to map".
Click on connect at the bottom should be done straight away and then you should be able to see it in "Network Places" as well. Let me know if this fixes the problem or not.

Windows vista will not load on my laptop

Consider the following scenario. You use the net use command to map a network drive to the Sources folder. Then, you run the Setup program from the mapped drive to install Windows Vista. In this scenario, the installation may not finish successfully, and you may receive the following error message: Windows could not load device compatibility data.

CAUSE loadTOCNode(1, 'cause'); This issue occurs if the Setup program cannot access files and folders that are located outside the Sources folder. The Setup program requires access to these files and folders to successfully complete the installation.
RESOLUTION loadTOCNode(1, 'resolution'); To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods: • Do not map a drive directly to the Sources folder. Instead, use the net use command to map a drive to the parent folder that contains the Sources folder. • Run the Setup program by using a universal naming convention (UNC) path instead of by using the net use command to map a drive.
