I have a 3 year old Samsung LED tv. it went very dark all the sudden but still had a picture.

I turned the backlite setting all the way down and it brightened up a bit. if I go to turn the backlights back up 2 notches it will start to brighten up more but then on 4th notch it will go dim again.

A Bad chip on the mother board. Not worth fixing. Too expensive.

Testimonial: "You are an expert? OK.. You would know I can get a motherboard for $20-$30. Why would you not offer that advice? Do you work for Samsung? Thank you"

playing with remote, I put it into 3d mode. Then back out of 3d mode. now backlights are working. YA! Cost? $0

  • sureshd2008 Nov 05, 2018

Whether the MB for that particular TV model is available or not is something I dont know. So, I cannot comment on that. You may try the settings of the TV using your remote and increase the brightness level and reduce the blackness level. If you wish.

I had a similar problem on my Samsung (about 3 years old). The Samsung repairman changed the motherboard and charged me around $150 for it. But, the picture quality has never been good since then. I am going to gift it to someone and buy a new one.

SOURCE: Picture too dark

You didn't say if you are receiving an off air picture or cable or satellite. The reason the commercials look good is because the local station (or source) transmits them "in the clear", that is, without any enhancements to the video signal. Network programing or local newscasts are sent through a device which inserts a reference signal in what's called the "vertical interval". You may have seen this as a series of flashing dots or pulses at the very top of the picture. There's a lot of information packed into the VITS (Vertcal Interval Test Signal). One of the lines contains a reference pulse for video which is set at a certain level. Your TV sees that level and automatically adjusts its circuitry accordingly. What I suspect is that your set is out of calibration and is pushing down the video signal because it is not "seeing" the level properly. A video alignment should correct this and can be done by a good repair facility. Hope this helps.

Yes, they dim as they age, and you've done well to get 3 years out of one.
Projection TV makers charge an arm and a leg for their replacement lamps. They make it easy to do but as a result the custom lamp assy is expensive. The trick is to just buy the bulb for your model TV from any number of us aftermarket sources at a fraction of the lamp price and install it in the old lamp yourself. really easy.

SOURCE: Dark scree

I too have the same problem with the same monitor.. tv looks great OSD looks great.. pc is dim.. This has nothing to do with the inverter board or the backlight.. I believe that there is an issue with the components that render the Computer video.

Samsung led smart tv 55" screen has all the sudden went really dark with sound. Backlights?

You have a bunch of burned out LED buttons in the LED strips that light the panel, new strips will fix the issue. You didn't give the model so I can't help with part numbers but go to shopjimmy.com and put the number in there in search and you will find the parts, they generally run around $75 for a 55" set with shipping plus your local sales tax. Watch several youtube vids on changing them, it's a time consuming job but not hard to do just handle the panel with extreme care as it can be damaged then the set is junk. Once you get it fixed do a software update to extend the life of the new strips.

Have Samsung UN60JU6500FXZA LED TV 60".The picture now has a white haze on the whole screen and the dark colors are off. It went away for a day and came back. Less than 3 years old. How to fix it?

Hi,
The problem came, went away by itself and came back shows it to be some loose contact between TCON board and panel or on the TCON board itself. Needs close examination.

TV has gone dark- sony model number KDL-60EX645 and serial number 5003083

Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

Some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement.

Lg model 47ln5750 screen went black

That model is an LED Backlit unit. The LED driver could be bad or there could be a power supply problem. Sometimes the problem is a cable connection. Is there an picture that you can see in a dark room? If you can see a faint picture, the problem is probably the LED back light.
