Hi I have a pioneer receiver xr-j11 midi hifi. The stand by light won't go on, I think it has no power to the unit itself. How can I repair it myself. Thanks in advance.

SOURCE: sony midi Hifi switching itself off

These digital amps are very prone to blow if the speaker wires are shorted so Sony appear to have put in a protection system that mutes the amp when this happens. You have to unplug the amp for a minute till the light goes off, make sure no speaker wires are touching each other and then it should work ok. I found the same problem with one I bought 2nd hand.

Xv-bd707 won't start. it stands. "Please wait" in the window.

This is a combo unit. Confirm the disc is playable. The problem may not be in the machine. Check that the power plug is firmly inserted. I have provided links to manuals for the machine. If the troubleshooting therein fails, the remaining option appears to be contacting the manufacturer. Such details should be in the manuals.

How do I connect the Pioneer subwoofer s-dv55sw-k to a different receiver.

I'd take a clue from the highly-proprietary interconnection and this warning printed right on the back, "USE only with XV-DV55";

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Pioneer-S-DV55SW-Q-HiFi-component-Active-Sub-Subwoofer-/400202114586

... and this warning from the seller in this example, "NOTE this is a specialized component unit, meaning it is only compatible with certain Hi-Fi's of the same brand, be sure to check compatibilty on the web BEFORE purchasing."
The little molex connector leading up to the subwoofer itself is probably one way to access it as a passive speaker without the lower section's amplifier. Measure its resistance. If it's about 8-ohms you may be able to drive it with an external amp.

Our receiver (pioneer vsx-405) will not power on. Push the power button once and you get the power stand by light coming on but when you hit the button again the stand by light goes off and nothing comes...

Hello,

Usually a fault like the you ask will indicate a bad transistor in the amplification section. I suspect that the control circuit is sensing a fluctuation in the power supply and going in to protect mode. (assuming that the protect circuit itself is working properly) If a voltage is too high the unit will go in to protect mode to prevent damage to the speakers and the rest of the unit. I would take the unit in to a local repair shop and get a estimate of repair charges. Expect a 60 to 80 dollar repair charge depending on how many parts need to be replaced and what the repair labor rate is in your area.
Good luck...

Pioneer Receiver SX-750: Getting a loud hum through the speakers

The hum you hear from the speakers and from the unit itself originate with 60hz AC power. They may not actually be related. Sometimes a transformer will hum slightly and unnoticeably. That you're getting a loud speaker hum says there is an electrical leak or a grounding issue somewhere.

Do all sources produce the hum or, say, just the phono? How about on headphones? Try rotating the AC plug. In those days they weren't keyed with one large blade as they are now.
