I have a Essick Air EP-500 whole house himidifier and I replaced the filter and it ran for hour or so then it stopped and F flashes but it is full of water

Can you say how it stopped working, please? Does 'it would not start' mean absolutely nothing happens or what, please?

That suggests a faulty sensor (or sensor connection) or controller board.

Are there no other symptoms, please?

Try adding a pinch of salt into the water. filtered water does not humidify as good.
