You have a bad black toner pump. p/n D0293221
1) Check if the toner cartridge reinstalled is a genuine one. Confirm that the toner cartridge is shaken properly before inserting into the printer.
2) If not, then take it out and shake it nicely and then reinstall into the printer. Also, ensure that you haven't left any old powder in the toner cartridge while refilling it with the new toner powder.
3) If yes, then this issue appears. Take the toner cartridge and refill it again with the new toner powder after removing the old toner powder completely.
4) Check whether the lid on the toner cartridge is closed properly. The printer might display this error even if the lid is not closed properly. Verify if the toner cartridge is installed correctly in its place.
5) If not, remove the toner cartridges from the printer and reinstall them again and check if the issue is resolved with the Ricoh Aficio MP C5000 printer.
Was it a genuine toner cartridge? I bought some aftermarket ink cartridges for my canon. The colour one was OK but the black... The printer kept saying black empty. I put my nearly empty genuine one back and the fault disappeared. Put the copy one in and same result. I bought a genuine black and no problem.

Thanks Ricohman for the suggestion. Toner was original Ricoh cartridge and reinstalling it didn't help. I decided to tear the machine apart and discovered the auger for the black toner was stuck. I removed the auger, cleaned everything up and put the machine back together. Works great now.

Are you a tech? I suspect not. You need to remove the drum unit, disassemble, separate the drum from the development unit. Remove cover of developer unit, add developer, reassemble, and run SP2214 to calibrate.
This is NOT a procedure to be performed by an end user...no disrespect intended.

Check your old toner bottle and make sure the plastic "cap" is still in the bottle. These machines have an occaisional problem with the caps coming off (not the black screw off cap but the semi clear cap under the black screw off cap) and staying inside the black plastic "cup" that you insert the toner into. If the cap is missing it may be stuck inside this cup. If the cap is still in your old cartridge then try opening/closing the front door and letting the machine cycle to see if the toner light goes out. May have to do this several times. Had one customer just yesrday have to do this to clear the toner light after adding toner.
Good Luck.

Toner supply is controlled with readings from TD sensor on the developing unit
and the I.D sensor above the drum by default.
These are low cost parts and easy to change.
(The TD sensor on this model have been known to fluctuate back and forth
by a fair margin so is a good place to start).
You could also try stripping down and cleaning out the toner hopper.
Check the four mylars are present and the grabber is opening wide enough
to grab the toner bottle nozzle successfully.
Check the toner hopper exit slider is opening fully when the PCU is
inserted.
I had one of these 'add toner' faults today and it was the toner hopper
all clogged up inside.
The side bit where the toner drops down had hardened clumps of toner
stuck around the side entrance mylar and the exit hole.
Check also the toner motor. I have seen these fail. Run
simulation output check for toner motor. I would remove the toner supply
unit and hold the motor when you run this simulation. Sometimes the motor
turns but does not have enough torgue to turn the toner supply unit.
