Dish Network VIP211 receiver keeps shutting off and updating programming guide. What is the fix or is it indicator the receiver is gone bad?

try looking into the Timer section on the TV. also on Dish if it is left unattended (like stay on same channel etc) it will go in to sleep mode, U then just hit the Select button.. U can go in the Dish menu and set the Sleep mode (inactivate mode ) to a longer time, I usually set my for 8 hours.

The nightly updates allow the receivers to update software and the programming guide. if you need to force a download on the guide simply unplug the receiver from the wall outlet for 10 seconds and plug it back in, allow it to power back on by itself, acquire signal, and download the guide. You are getting that message because the receiver is not updating the Electronic Program Guide (EPG). Try unplugging the receiver from your electrical outlet for about 10 seconds (make sure all lights on receiver go out) and plug back in. This will cause the receiver to reboot and re-acquire satellite signal. Allow it also to download the program guide. After you get your channel back, pull up your guide, go into the future to see if it updated.

If it did not update, you'll need to run a check switch test. Press Menu on your DISH remote; should have Main Menu on TV screen. Press 6 (System Setup), 1 (Installation), and 1(Point Dish). Highlight the CHECK SWITCH button on the upper right of the screen and press the Select button on remote. On the Installation Summary screen, highlight the TEST button at the bottom of screen and press the Select button on the remote. This will initiate the test. Allow the test to complete. Once completed, exit out of each screen till you get to Acquiring Satellite Signal on TV screen. After acquisition completion, allow it to download the program guide. If this doesn't fix the problem, you may need a new receiver. I hope this helps.

If you have an external hard drive, you can activate the feature on the 211 to allow you to record movies to the external hard drive. It is a one time $40 to activate the external hard drive feature. Hello, this is Matthew Gonzales with DISH Network customer service. To answer your question, yes the ViP211 will work with a dish 500. It will receive the standard channels as you asked, but if you wish to get HD, the dish on your home will need to be upgraded. Hope this helps!

Hi swizz33 onthe VIP211 receiver there are many different connections you can use besidesthe HDMI cable to connect your VIP211. You can use the RCA cable as well as aCOAX cable and there are the Component cables you may use and all of those typesof cables will give you picture and sound.
