Does the TV and system have either a coaxil or optical sockets? If it does then I would connect them by one of these. That should trigger the sound. However it might work via the HDMI if you have selected the system to pass digital signals via that connection.

Hi, Sounds like the screen could have gone or the motherboard has something to do with it, try opening it up but be careful just to make sure everything is intact
As far as I know the only way to set lock mode on/off is using the remote. The only thing I can think of is unplugging power cord for five minutes to check if this reset settings.
