The screen keeps going off/going black but still has sound. If I switch it to standby then switch back on, the screen comes on again but may go off again a few minutes later. Maybe again the next day.

Luxor TV, maybe 3 to 4 years old.

Check the power supply for burned-out electrolytic capacitors. The power supply board has a two- or three-wire cable going to the power cord connector, possibly through a power filter module. The picture below shows burned-out capacitors with domed-up tops next to some that are good (the tops are flat). I recommend replacing bad capacitors with Panasonic FR-series parts; these have a good combination of power handling ability, longevity and price.

Failing capacitors will work for a while, but as the power quality deteriorates, it gets harder for the set to operate, just as you have observed. It is possible that there is another part with a thermal problem (quits working when it gets warm), but this is the most common failure mode.

SOURCE: TV keeps turning itself on and off, onto standby

I managed to find a local repair man who fixed the problem. He put in a new transformer.

Please also disconnect everything from the TV apart from thee power cable as it may an external device that is causing the problem.

If there are touch buttons on your TV, make sure they are not touching anything and they are clean.

Remove the batteries from your remote control as this could also be turning the TV off.

Elonex tv keeps going onto standby, take about 10-15 goes to work.

Sounds like you may have some capacitors going bad. If it is a high end TV it may pay you to take it to a repair shop.

Our sony tv has a standby button that keeps flashing and we can't get the tv to come on, it sounds like it comes on but the screen is black. Is there something specific on the remote we need to push to get...

does the tv give a pulsing sound to the same rthyum as the flashing standby LED? If not, when you switch on the TV, you should feel static on your hand when touching the screen on switch on. Also, if you look through the back cover in the dark, you should see the tube neck dimly lit up orange. These checks will give you a more precise answer to your problem .

My playstation turns on and everything, but once i plug it in to any kind of television there is no picture or sound

Heres one solution that I found. If your ps3 turns on but does not boot up just stays a black screen most likely the hard drive got corrupted. So unfortunately you will lose all your saves. But to save the system when you power on the ps3 hold the button down its should beep once keep holding it and it should turn red in standby mode. Keep holding the power button down though. It should turn green again keep holding it should beep then double beep this time instead of going into standby. Let go now and some options will come onto the screen. You will need to plug in your ps3 controller and 6 options should come up. Reformat PS3 worked for me but I lost all my saves. Good luck!
