The owner's manual is your best source for that information. If it's computerized, you need to follow the instructions exactly.

If it's a "mechanical" machine, you can use good quality oil (I use Tri-Flow Synthetic Lube) and put a drop every place where metal rubs against metal.

I can generally tell by the change of sound of the machine when it needs some TLC. I tend toclean & oil the shuttle every 8-10 hours of sewing and do a thorough oil every 40 hours.

SOURCE: my bobbin thread is not drawing up on my brother

If the thread is being trapped in the bobbin area, yes, it could be the bobbin case. If the thread goes around the bobbin case and come back up then it is probably out of time and needs to be sent to a repair shop.

Brother cs6000i thumping noise

Need to change your needle and make sure in doing so that you have it tight and all the up in the needle plug. Also when is the last time the machine was oiled? Is this a top loading machine? Meaning, is the bobbin on the top or in the bottom of the machine?

Oil

You do not oil computerized sewing machines.

Take your machine to a Brother certified tech when it requires service.

If you use the machine everyday, it should be serviced once a year.
