if wi would repace the main board and also the fan..both are simple to replace..

You must be referring to the compressor. It's possible it could be your main control board on the back of the unit. Typically its these main boards that go out, as they control everything on your GE Refrig, pretty much. If its not the board, it could be your Relay on the compressor, or the compressor its self, however, in my experience, GE's compressors are pretty decent.

the thump ing sound is probably the rubber mounts under the compressor . they go hard and do not insulate the compressor . . pry the comp up on all four mounts and make sure they are loose and not stuck down if ther are hard and not bouncy .. replace them . if compressor has borken internal motor mounts / there is nothing you can do . but put up with noise ..

check the voltage going into you fan w/ the old main board and also w/ the new board. You might be getting a low voltage w/ your new board or the fan you replaced is for a diferent voltage. Have you tried to put the old fan back w/ the new board??

You should have included instructions that came with this board and the serial# is what dictates if a wire is cut or not on the main board. there also might be a wire on the harness that plugs into the wall that needs to be cut although I have yet to find one.
