Used the generator during outtage, then tried to turn off and ignition switch was stuck in run positon, and voltage meter was melted along with the idle control switch, and generator would,t turn off. so i turned fuel valve off to starve engine to shut down. i replaced ignition switch, voltage meter, idle control switch, and battery. i connected positive cable, and when i touched the negative cable it wanted to start. no key in ignition. could a short in the starter relay be the problem?
Hi. If the ignition switch and the wiring from the ignition switch to the starter are good. Then I would look at the starter solenoid. The solenoid is normally open and only closes when the ignition switch is turned to the start position. Remove the "Trigger" wire from the starter, reattach the battery cables and use a test light to confirm. Good luck.
SOURCE: engine wont turn over with key, not getting enough gas to run.
Have the key and ignition checked! I am assuming that the key has a security chip on it, Right? If so, re-program key at dealership, and if that alone doesn't work, have them check both the key and column.

Today 11-12-08 my 2003 H2 Hummer would not start. Checked battery it ischarged. Cables tight. Tried to start with portable booster pak. No go. Tridto jump start with my wife's Suburban. Still no go.
When I turn the switch I hear a single click and that is it. No engine turning over. While trying to start with key the headlights go out. Out of ideas, Will take to Chevy garage in am. Will post solution.

i have a 1991 f-150 and had the same problem try changing the fuel filter and put gas treatment in the tank alone with fuel injector cleaner if that doesnt work you mite check the fuel pump and see if any rust or dirt is in the tank cloging things up
SOURCE: cannot connect the negative battery terminal without spark or starter turning over
You will need new igniton cylinder. Sounds like you have a short in the cylinder.
