I have seen many p/c compressors equipped with a thermal fuse attached directly to the field coil of the motor. Others still have both a 20amp fuse and a thermal reset. You can remove the thermal reset and replace with fuse or eliminate. Do however check that the unit is not drawing too many amps indicating the motor my be failing. Good luck with your repair.

SOURCE: press. switch won't shut off motor when reaching cut-out pressure

IF THE SWITCH WILL NOT SHUT IT DOWN ITS NOT WIRED CORRECTLY, THE POINTS IN THE SWITCH ARE WELDED TOGETHER AND WONT RELEASE OR THE LINE UNDER THE SWITCH IS CLOGGED

SOURCE: pressure switch dows not shut off motor when

Pressure switch has gone bad and needs to be replaced. Part runs around $25. Go online and put in model number, pressure switch. You will find companies that sell replacement parts. I had to replace mind, it did the same thing.

SOURCE: Put new switch on compressor and now wont shut off.

the regulator is failing to do its job. make sure you have it set properly. if you did, you will likely need a new one. also remember to drain the compressor every month to prevent rust from moisture build up in the tank. good luck.

I have a c2002 compressor. When turned on it pumps to ~25psi and stops. Then it starts & stops repeatedly for a few seconds in each phase. I already replaced the pressure switch. Suggestions...... kb

Some of these compressors have a thermal breaker tied to the field winding. Most likely this breaker is weak or the amp draw is too high. Check amp draw with meter or just remove the breaker and make sure that the motor is not getting too hot. Good luck

Why my air compressor want shut off after building up pressure

If it is building up to the full rated pressure and there are no air leaks in the hoses then it is most likely the pressure switch. It is item 111 in this parts diagram.

My porter cable air compressor won't shut off when it reaches max psi, this is the 2nd compressor I've had this problem with of the same type after about a year of use.

The airr pressure cut off switch is not working or out of alignment. What you can do is to adjust the spring with the air pressure reading at your required pressure. Once this is done allow the air to flow so that the compressor will work again to cur off, you will have to trim once again to set it to the correct condition. If the spring assembly is not working well on pressure you can remove and reset. If the contact are dirty , the switch on may not start the compressor, in such case clean the contacts. But if you think that it is not acting responsive, the please replace the unit and do the settting as explained above.
I hope you try this out. Good day

The compressor only reach 50 PSI.

Does the compressor continue to run but not build more pressure? In which case it is an air leak most likely, or does the compressor shut off at 50 PSI? In which case it is mose likely the pressure switch. If it is an air leak you can un-screw the guage and coat with putty or teflon tape and reinstall to clog the leak around the threads..

Air leak after reaching 150 psi & shutting off

Everything I read in the owners manual suggest you take unit in for a trained service tech to repair. It could possibly be a few things causing this but from what I can see there are not that many replaceable repairable parts for this. Good luck
