It wont turn on, And the zoom is extended.

The camera wont turn on. I hear 3 beeps when i press the on button. The zoom is extended and the lens is open.

    I have the same problem. My lens is extended and I ever tried to wiggle the lens a little, as that usually will work. Today, my camera shut off with the lens extended and the camera will not even turn on. I got this camera last Christmas, so it hasn't even been a year. I am very disappointed about this.

    I won this camera from a radio station so I don't have a reciept. The camera powers itself off but the lens stays out. I've tried different batteries.

    Anyone had any luck with an exchange?

    My lens is out and the power is off and i tried holding down menu and the power and all it did was made things worse. I just got this camera like last month and if my parents ever see this im like so dead!!!! HELPPP!!!! PLEASE HELP ME FIX THIS!!!!!!

    My camera works when I don't use a SD card, when I use it, the camera won't turn on and the zoom stuck open! After 2 second the camera turns off with the zoom out and I can't turn it on again without removing the card...

I had exactly the same problem. Lens stayed open, when powered on you get three beeps and nothing. I found when I pulled the lens out a little harder it gave a little click. When I powered on it worked perfectly.

My camera wont turn on or off, the lens is stuck halfway, so i cant pull it, and i cant tell my mom or she WILL kill me.

A temporary fix to power up is to press the menu and power button at the same time. When the lens is extended and it beeps, on my camera , the lens is *stuck* Give it a gentle tug , then try the power button again. I discovered this *TEMPORARY* solution on the web. I was able to *close* the lens and shut the camera down properly. I would suggest either seeking warranty ( if possible) or taking it to a camera repair shop. That is what I will be doing. Good luck fellow shutterbugs!

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try.

The S0042 error code relates to a problem with the zooming mechanism (lens would not retract or extended)
Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix your problem. Let me know if it worked!

My Olympus FE-320 will not focus. When I turn the camera on, lens extends and retracts a couple of times, camera beeps and turns off. If I press the review button while the lens is extended, I can see old...
Before sending this camera for a repair, Please make sure the focus setting is not set to "macro mode" (flower shaped).
Just a thought.

Beeps 3 times
Is it an actual beep, or is it a beeping noise coming from the lens? Does the lens extend? I ask this because this is the noise the lens focus gears make when they are knocked out of alignment, or debris gets in them and jams them.

well i´m the bad news guy, it could be two things, or u droped the camera and the zoom lens is out of the place and the sensors arent working properly or it´s just the sensors that are no working, the only way is to send to a repair centre normally they just replace all the lens. All the beeps it´s just to say that the lens is lost.... can´t locate it self.

Does the lens extend in either of these cases? If there has been some malfunction in the lens and it fails to extend the situation can cause the camera to power-off in order to protect itself. Some cameras show error messages before powering off, others do not. Hold the camera up to your ear and turn the power on. Is there a series of mechanical sounds before the beeps? Hearing sounds but not seeing the lens extend indicates some sort of failure in the lens assembly. If you hear nothing then the problem most likely lies elsewhere, possibly a failed electronic component or something as simple as a loose connection. Check with your manufacturer for any recalls or technical bulletins, and see if they will service your camera under warranty. If not there are a number of repair facilitys available on the internet who generally have better rates than out-of-warranty service at the factory. David Millier Advance Camera Repair
