Kirby Heritage 84 will not turn on with hose attachment. Why did this suddenly start happenings?

Nothing is broken. It is like the connector is going too close to the opening because it will start with it pulled away slightly.

The switch bar is bent , and needs to be replaced. You can try to re-bend it but this takes some skill. Take the bar out and lay it flat and you will see the where to straighten .

SOURCE: Using accessories on a Kirby Heritage 84

my guess with your kirby is the safety switch on the right side of your vacuum is not being pressed down, are you sure you have the right model of hose? any Heritage 1 2 or Legend 2 can work with it since they all have the same switch. your carpet head is working from the sound of it so either it's just that the high speed switch (being pressed fully down) doesn't work or you are not using the right type of hose (or the piece that engages the switch could be broken off

Kirby works with the brush roller head; but not the hose attachment (won't start with hose attachment)

The part of the hose that attaches to the vacuum should push on the switch on the front of the vacuum so it won't come on without the nozzle or hose attached. Inspect the hose to see if that part may be broken or not making good contact to activate the switch,

Kirby heritage 2 wont stand upright keeps falling over

Is your bag too full? the added weight will tip over your vacuum, especially if you're using the attachment hose. Check the bag. If it's over the "indicator line", then change it. See if that helps.

I have a Kirby Heritage 84. Great condition except the part that connects the innerbag is missing. I don't even know what it is called. I can open the vacuum cleaner bottom and see that the part is...

The Heritage 84 had two different bag assemblies available. One is a dump-out bag. The dirt simply dumps through the bottom. The other is the bagged style which has a full length zipper to open it. Inside it should contain a "bag fill tube", and a top adapter to attach the bag onto. The oval fill tube is no longer available, but a round tube can be installed with a bit of efort.

How do you put on the attachment hose?

The Heritage II Legend...First you make sure that the machine is unplugged from any outlet,. Now, raise your height adjust to the highest level. Next you will need to turn your belt lifter on the front of the nozzel to the right as far as you can. Now flip the hinged light cover up, and turn the latch that holds down the head to the left. Your nozzle is now released. Now take the hose and roll it on to the bar from the front to the back, make sure it is aligned and then turn the latch to the right locking the hose, and you are ready to kirby it up! Hope this fixesya! Let me know, Thanks, Rene (the Vacuum Doctor)

How to attach Kirby Heritage Suds-o-gun?

To use the suds-o-gun you need to convert you Kirby to blower mode. First remove the carpet head.
If you have all of the standard kirby attachments there should be a plastic cover to go over the front of the kirby where the carpet head attaches. Its round with square holes in one end. If you don't have this no biggie. Just leave the carpet head on the machine and rotate the belt to the off position so the brush rool bush on rotate. Remove the bag for the machine attach the hose where the bag was use the same end that attaches to the front on the machine. There are notches on the inside of the hose connector the fit over the tabs on the bag port. Fill the suds gun tank with shampoo and water. Attach the suds gun to the kirby hose. The suds gun nozzle is funnel shaped with wire mesh on the end. This helps to make the suds finer. Also the suds gun should have a knob to set how much suds come out when you pull the trigger. Turn on you kirby and suds away.

I hope this helps.

Kirby Heritage 84
Posted by sixbrocks on Jun 23, 2008
I can't figure out how to get the belt engaged on my Kirby Heritage 84. There are very simple instructions on the front assembly; however, the belt doesn't engage with the rotor, and the beater bar does not spin. When I have the front twisting section on the "Belt On" setting, it seems as though it actually disengages the belt. I see no faults in any of the mechanical parts, but just can't get the belt to go on the rotor.
(I purchased this machine @ a garage sale on Saturday. It's in perfect condition.)
My vacuum cleaner is a Kirby 84 Legend.
Help! Jennifer

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. You can always check your owner’s manual but the Kirby has a dial on the front of the machine and you needs to dial the belt off of the fan pulley counter clock wise and to check to see if the Kirby bell housing will release @ the top so that you can remove the bell housing. If not then remove the bottom plate and take out the brushroll on one side and then slide the belt off of the brushroll. Then you can slide the new belt onto the brushroll to the center and then re-insert the Kirby brushroll with the screw heads facing downward then you can replace the bottom plate – then use the Kirby spoon or hook to dial the belt onto the fan pulley clock wise. Once that is done then plug in the Kirby and try to vacuum to see if the Kirby is picking up properly, if not repeat the process. If you have a question, feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

How to replace a fuse a Kirby Ultimate G Series

There is no fuse in the Kirby. There are few things that you want to check:
1. Cord - most likely cause. It may not be damaged but wires inside may have snapped if it got between doors.
2. Safety switch inside - no easy way to check. We usually just put a new one in and see if it solves the problem.
3. Motor - very unlikely that something is wrong with the motor - those are very hard to kill.
