Clean the cartridge contacts on the printer and the new cart, and try again. If no joy try the old cart, does it still show the same error?

The 6310 takes a #95 tri-color cartridge. #901 is for Officejet 4500 and 4600 series printers.

Every cartridge needs to have ink in it to print. Even if you only want to print black and white and one of your colors is empty. A dirty little industry secret is that when you print black....it also makes the colors print too...so you get to buy even more ink than you need to!

Did you use HP or original cartridges? A lot of the newer printers make it hard to use other cartridges but if you google it there are work arounds to save money with remanufactured cartridges.

HP, for example, makes more money selling you one of their overpriced ink cartridges than they do selling you a whole printer. At their prices a gallon of ink costs over $5000 !!!!!!!!!!! And you wonder why they make it hard for you !?!?!?!?!?

Hp officejet 4620 does not print with starter cartridge

If printer is in warranty, demand for replacement.

1. Check ink levels in printer..if levels are showing, take out all ink cartridges refill them.
If levels are zero, go for new cartridges.
2. If ink level are showing in printer & physically cartridges having ink, then problem with print head, try to clean the clogged nozzles.

Black will not print

Do not open the HP 564XL cartridge until you are ready to use it
Do not touch the electrical contacts of the cartridge
To obtain best print reliability store the box with the bottom facing down
Use the HP 564XL ink up within 6 months after opening to obtain the best print quality
Refer to your users manual provided with your printer for information on how to open and install the cartridge
Store out of direct light, in a stable environment. Large temperature changes may affect the cartridge

Easiest way possible? Take out the photo cartridge and put a piece of scotch tape on the ink part. That's what I do. But if you want to do it on your computer, then you will need to browse through your print settings. You can do this in Start Menu > Printers and Faxes, then right click on the printer and select Printing Preferences

Are you using genuine HP cartridges?
According to HP, the two cartridges for your printer are the 564 and the 564XL. Either cartridge will work.
HP does not offer another size.

Take the black one out that's in there now and see what the Part # is... then do a search for it.
