I have an Olympia typewriter which I have just required second hand so there is no manual, and the carriage is not moving when I type. I am unsure how to fix the problem as the carriage isn’t locked as moves when I press the ‘tab’ button. Thanks

Be sure the pitch selection is correct. If it is set to PS when using a 10,12 or 15 pitch wheel it will select incorrect letters.

SOURCE: Carriage return problem

If it returns with the express key the latching mech. on the rt. side is probably gummy. Take off the case, get some WD40 and spray the mechinism that latches the ret on the rt. side below the platen.

The unlocking lever is just below the right ink-roll up=loose down=locked for carriage. You slightly push the carriage bar to the right and at the same time push the lever in upward position. success!

Olympia Startype electric typewriter , make a funny noise and won't move carriage. Can not get it to work.

Turn it off and see if the carrier will move back and forth by hand if it will but feels a little gummy spray a little WD40 on the silver shafts that it slides on. If it won't move by hand look for debris in the carrier area.

Printer just beeps and carriage wont move.

No...you may have broken wire or wires in the cable harness that runs from the carriage unit down to the PCB. The cable/carriage will have to be relaced if they are broken.

Carriage remains stationary when typing. Is there a way to unlock

Mant portables have a lock to hold the carriage in place while in the case, on the rt. or left sides below the carriage.

Hope this helps
