What is the correct way to adjust the clutch/brake pedal on a Craftsman LT1000 riding mower?

Where is this pedal kill switch located on this LT1000 Craftsman? Also, is there a spring that pulls this pedal all the way up,to prevent transmission lock-up?

SOURCE: I have 16 hp Craftsman riding mower with a Kohler engine.

It may think you are in reverse and is killing the motor to keep you from backing up with the blade running. Look for switch that is telling it when you are in reverse, maybe it is stuck with grass or other debris. another possibility is that the blades are jammed and they are stalliing the motor. Mines stalls easily when cold.

Where are kill switches on my Craftsman 46" Hydrostatic lawn tractor?

how old is the mower? Usually one in the seat & under the engine cover where you depress the clutch/brake pedal. Good place to start. Hope it helps.

My LT1000 has no brakes! Is there a diagram of the breaking system? Thanks!

Usually there is a small round shaped brake over the rear axle under the fender in back. This has a bolt connected to your clutch/brake pedal with a nut on it for adjustment. Chances are just tightening it up a little will give you brakes back.

I have a sears craftsman riding lawnmower LT2000 model #917.273751 18hp intek engine 42in deck.Engine runs fine but when I release the clutch-brake pedal engine stalls.seems like an intermitent problem...

There are other safety switches as well. The electrical diagram shows (2) of the interlock switches (part no. 16 in diagram) in the electrical system. The location of the 2nd one could be on the transmission or the clutch/brake pedal. It could also be on the PTO system (blade actuator if you will). See if you can find the other switch on your unit. I have an LT1000 and have NOT looked for them. Here is an electrical diagram on your unit.

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.

Here are the 3 safety switches.
Seat
Clutch Brake
and PTO Clutch

More ofthen than not the PTO Clutch gets a gap greater than 0.020 between the clutch and the clutch plate and the safety switch is not made. There are 3 bolts with springs and 3 slots in the PTO clutch. Adjust the tension on the springs until the gap is 0.020. Then try a start.

If it does not work:
Check out this diagram.. it is for your mower:
http://c.searspartsdirect.com/lis_png/PLDM/P0905008-00011.png

I found your particular model here: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Craftsman-Parts/Riding-mower-tractor-Parts/Model-917288030/0247/1509200/P0905008/00011?blt=06&prst=0&shdMod=917288030

Parts can be located by choosing the diagrams under the small schematic. I think if you adjust the clutch you will be fine. The seat has to be occupied / switch shorted and the clutch brake pedal made to get power to the solenoid.

Respond ehre is you need more help.... Better yet let me know if the PTO clutch adjustment corrected the problem.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Model#917-273764 when i let off brake pedal it stalls and will only run with pedal depressed

i would look into:

a bad safety switch or safety switch relay is killing the engine when you let off the clutch. look especially where the safety switches are all wired into a central relay.

You didn't indicate what model number you have. You can download a manual here:http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/owner_manuals/21205/CRAFTSMAN-Lawn,-Tractor-L0306104?brand_name_search=917272672+CRAFTSMAN if the 917272672 isn't the right model go to www.searspartsdirect.com and enter you model number. When the parts come up look over on right had side of page for button to select manual. To start, you must have foot on clutch, PTO disengaged. The seat switch doesn't come into play until the PTO is engaged. Check for voltage at the B terminal on the start switch to be sure fuse is good. From there check the S terminal when you turn key to start. From there it goes to the clutch/brake switch (when depressed) then to pto clutch then to solenoid. GOOD LUCK!

WILL NOT START craftman LT1000 YR.2000

most likely the blades are still in the on position, but you have a seat switch, parking brake switch, and the blade switch, also the mow in reverse key switch. if mower dies once you let out the clutch in reverse with blades on and key wrong.
