Reach inside the drum and feel the drum inserts to see if one of those has come loose. Sometimes you can have one of those screws back out and hit something on the inside. Could also be a bent drum (doubtful unless its been overloaded or abused real bad) a front slide is bad (would probably cause squeeking or grinding noise) or rear bering (also should squeek or grind). Good Luck!!! Jim

I have a frigidaire gallery 49012/59012 dryer and the drum want turn. The belt is not broke and the motor runs. I can see the belt is not turning on the drum. Is the belt maybe stretched or what?

You may have a belt motor problem. Turn the drum by hand and if it turns freely the belt is off at the motor pulley. You can try to connect it back on the motor pulley but what caused it to come off first off. Your belt may be bad or the pulley assembly may also be bad. You'll have to pull out the dryer and remove the back panel to see and repair. Good luck.

Our dryer has a terrible squeak. We replaced the

The terrible squeak is probably the idler pulley shaft spalling in the idle pulley mount. When the idler pulley siezes to to pulley shaft it spins in the mount and makes a horrible racket.

It can be the motor bearings also but I doubt it at this time. With the belt off you can spin the motor and listen for any odd sound. If you hear nothing then the problem is definately the idler pulley assy.

It is normal for the drum to float in place. When there is a problem with the drum or drum felts, you usually hear a cyclic scrape or grinding sound that is concurrent with each rotation of the drum.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Dryer is scraping as it turns. Is there a belt that is worn? Started doing it after 3rd load. Did the same last time we used it.

The dryer drum is suspended between the front panel and the back panel by extrusions that protrude into the front and rear of the drum. There are thick felt pads attached to the protrusions that support the drum and isolate the metal of the drum from the metal of the front and rear panel protrusions, allowing the drum to rotate freely. A large belt encircles the drum and a pulley attached to a motor mounted under the drum. A spring "thing" applies tension to the belt to prevent the belt from slipping. If the noise is a metal on metal sound, check the condition of the felts. Other causes of noise have been stretched belt slipping on drum, weak spring "thing" not keeping belt tight, motor bearings dry (oil) or worn (replace motor), and pulley on spring "thing needs lube (lube). Hope this helps.

How to replace the belt that it broke

To replace a belt on a Frigidaire front loader, follow these steps:

1. Unplug the washer and turn the washing machine around so you can access the back panel. Remove the rear panel by locating and loosening the screws around the perimeter of the panel.

2. Loop the drive belt on the drive motor pulley with the ribbed side on the pulley. Leave a one-groove gap between the belt and the end of the pulley.

3. Take both hands and pull straight up on the belt and place on the drum pulley beginning on the left hand side.

4. Hold the belt firmly in place and slowly turn the drum pulley to the right while holding the belt in place. The belt will eventually align and hold in place on the drum pulley.

NOTE: This may require some effort to get the belt in place.

If you have any questions, or are uncertain if these steps let me know. I hope this information is helpful.

Dryer will not start, when you press start it only hums , it acts like it is stuck in pause mode

Your problem may be a broken belt, or could be a faulty motor, or the belt may have slipped off of the motor pulley or idler arm pulley.
Try this first:
Unplug your dryer, reach inside the drum and rotate the drum 1/4-1/2 turn. Plug your dryer back in and push the start button again.
Sometimes motors get dead zones in them, and this will help to move it from that zone.
If this does not help then you will need to check further.
If it is a front load machine, you can remove the front and this will expose the drum and belt, you can then remove the belt and drum and that will expose the motor, and idler arm bracket with pulley.
I hope this helps

Frigidaire dryer tub will not turn

It sounds as thou the dryer drive belt has either broke or slipped off the motor drive pulley.

To determine which is the case, you'll need to unplug the dryer from the wall outlet (safety first!) OR turn off the gas valve too. Now pull out the dryer so you can remove the rear service access panel at the bottom of the dryer. Once you've removed the access panel, get down and look into the dryer with a flashlight and see if you can see the electric motor. Now see if you can see the drive belt around the motor pulley, or if the belt is broken and has fallen into this compartment.

If the belt is not on the pulley, grab hold of it and see if you can spin/rotate it around the drum, if you can do this all the way around, the belt is likely still good (check for damage as you slide the belt around).
You should be able to get the belt onto one side of the pulley and with your hand, carefully rotate the motor drive pulley to get the belt back on the drive pulley.

If the belt is broken, you'll need to install a new drive belt, which will take some further instructions to perform and will be made eaisier if you can provide the full model number for your dryer.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

My dryer is making a very loud skreeching noise. it sounds like metal on metal. What could that be?

belt is probably off the drum. Take the back off and put the belt back on unless the pulley is bad then you can replace the pulley.

Dryer won't start

Same thing happened to my same model. Pull out from wall. Remove lint filter. Take out two screws holding top to lint filter casing. Pry up top at the front (pops out of two plastic retaining dowels and is hinged on the back so you can tip the top up. Remove front panel by taking out two screw-bolts at top of backside of front panel and lift up -- careful to support drum as you do as the front part of the drum is supported by the flange built into the front panel. Check:

1) Is belt broken (the incredibly skinny belt that runs around the middle of the drum, not the rubbe track at the back of the drum). If belt is broke, replace. New belt at internet parts stores is about $10 bucks.

2) If belt is not broke, get down on belly with flashlight and find the spring-loaded wheel that keeps the belt snug against the motor pulley -- put the spring-loaded wheel and slip the belt off.

Now try to spin the motor pulley by hand. If it turns freely in both directions, it is probably good and the problem might be in the start switch (don't know how to test that).

If the motor pulley does NOT turn -- or is very hard to turn and binds -- the motor is dead. Probably the bearings burnt out (that's what happened to mine after only 4 years of light use). You have to remove the back panel to replace the motor, but it's a simple job if you know what a screwdriver and socket ratchet are for. New motor at internet parts stores is about $80 bucks.

Frigidaire Dryer

If Dryer does not tumble , check the following:

" It won't tumble If your dryer doesn't tumble, check these:

Belt
Motor
Door switch
Belt Dryers have a drive belt that turns the clothes drum. If the belt breaks, the drum stops rotating. Then you need to replace the belt, and often the idler pulley, because the pulley tends to wear out at the same time.

Click here for a belt installation diagram.

Motor If the dryer motor only hums when you press the Start button, the motor may be burned out. Here's how to test the dryer motor:

  • Remove the belt.

  • Check for obstructions in the blower fan housing.

  • Manually rotate the shaft of the motor.

If the motor is very stiff, or impossible to rotate manually, and the blower fan housing is clear, you need to replace the motor.

If the motor rotates freely, run the motor momentarily with the belt removed and the blower in place. If the motor runs fine with the belt removed, there may be a problem with the idler pulley or the clothes drum. Try to rotate the drum by hand. If it is very difficult to move, correct any problem with the rollers or pulley, and then reassemble the dryer and try it again.

If the motor hums but doesn't rotate on its own even with the belt removed--yet you can turn it freely by hand--you usually need to replace the motor or the motor start capacitor.

Door switch Your dryer can't operate at all if the door switch is defective. It's inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it."Source Repaiclinic

Changing the belt on Frigidaire GLER642

ok here we go facing the drier take a putty knife come about 1-2 inches from the edge and push in should feel a spring clip depress in lift one side then the other look inside on the front panel and remove the two 5/16 inch screws grasp the front and snap it off give it a good tug then your ready to go be sure to un plug the drier and slide it out from the wall so you can tilt the top back before removing the front don't forget my 4 boxes and make sure the idler pulley is on the belt the the belt goes around the drum around the motor pulley then you pull the idler pulley back and put the belt on top of the idler pulley let it back against the belt to keep the belt tight you do not have to remove the drum for this can all be done from the front
