I have found inconsistent firing caused by a fouled plug, bad spark plug wire, cracked distributor cap, and sticking valve (At least the most obvious causes of speed-dependent misfiring).
that same problem i haded with mi saturn and mi neighbor mechanic told me its caused because the valve EGR it acumulates too many dirt and that causes your problem remove it and clean it with a brush and some wd40 con the valve and with the part away tourn on the car to make the line clean alittle bit gust like a minute then put the valve and the car it will run very well
flashing light means dont drive or u can or will cause more damage to vehicle --[the computer is registering a damage causing malfunction] can be reason oil on plugs --need to have code read to properly pinpont problem--as to oil on plugs multi reasons such as bad oil seals on valve--valve bad-bent-burnt---head damage-gasket-cracked-warped---piston-cylinder-rings etc--need to do a compression test to determine the extent of damage
You now know that the MAP sensor was only being effected and was not the problem. Here are a few possible causes for the high signal transfer of the circuit:
YOU PROBLEY CRACKED ONE OF THE PLUGS ITS NOT HARD TO DO ON FORDS THERE 5/8 SRIGHT YOU NEED TO TAKE THE PLUGS ONE AT A TIME LOOK FOR CRACKS ON THE POURSLEN IV;E HAD THIS HAPPEN
DID you properly gap the spark plugs?? This will cause misfires and may cause hard or no start conditions. Also inspect all your Ignition coil boots for cracks or oil. Clean them and blow any oils in the spark plug chambers!!
is your check engine light ON? Has your timing belt been changed? have your intake cleaned, including the IAC valve. Inspect your intake hose for crackes and leaks(this is very typical. If your intake hose is cracked or leaking, this will cause hesitation and rough idling/running. post comments or questions...hopefully this helps
Check the COP(coil on plugs) boots. The 2000 and 2001 LS are known for oil soaked cop boots. The valve cover gaskets used on these years become brittle and crack which lets motor oil seep into the spark plug wells. The wells fill up with oil which soaks the boots that connect the spark plug with the coil causing the spark to jump before it gets to the plug.If not fixed it can cause the coil to short out.
I had the same starting problem on my 2001 LS. Then I noticed smoke comming from behind the right side valve cover. Then a few weeks later the engine started to miss. It's a good idea to check this and fix it early.
