ADDING HANDSET SAYS OUT OF RANGE

I HAVE tru8885 uniden cordless phones. I loved them before now. My base went out so I bought an identical base. now I am trying to deregister and register all 4 handsets to the new base. I read the manual and followed the instructions. No change. I will say that the handset that came with the new base did work until I desided to start linking the other 3 handsets. Now none of the handsets will register. help

A search of Uniden support only said to call 1-800-297-1023 with handset registration issues. The rep picked up quickly and walked me through the reset procedure. Here it is step-by-step:

1. Remove battery
2. Hold down the * and # buttons and reinsert battery. You should hear a long beep. If not retry. (This is a bit awkward but hold the handset upside down and it's workable)
3. Screen will be blank. Immediately press the right soft menu button.
4. Screen will report that EEPROM is clearing and then state EEPROM Clear Ok
5. Remove battery (yes again)
6. Reinsert battery (this time there's no need to hold down any buttons)
7. Handset will reboot with Welcome screen and then state that phone must be registered (this is the status a handset should be in from the factory)
8. Place handset on base and it will register as normal

Handset No2 displays out of range message

Please check that you have correctly registered the second handset to the base. It may be necessary to de-register the second handset and then re-register it. "Out of range" just means the second handset is not within range of the base phone it was registered to.

Adding a new handset

You need to register the new handset with the base.
In Global settings De-register the new handset then place it on the main base unit connected. It should then register.

UNIDEN 5.8 GHZ CORDLESS PHONES

Registering Handsets to the Base
Whichever handset you choose to charge in the base is automatically
registered to the base. Any additional handsets must also be registered to
the base before you can use them.
Be sure both handsets are fully charged.
One at a time, place each handset in the base. The charge/in use LED on
the base begins to flash, indicating the base is registering the handset.
Wait for at least five seconds, then pick up the handset and press
[talk/flash]. If the display shows TALK, the handset is registered. If not,
place the handset in the base to try again.
Press [end] and continue with the next handset.
Note:
Once both handsets are registered, it doesn’t matter which
handset is placed in the base or the charger.
When you charge the handsets, Caller
ID summary screen and the name of
the handset appears.

Handset Buttons Stopped Working - Full Battery

Here is a link to Uniden's site, and on the right side of the page, there is a link for a download manual pdf and helpline
http://www.uniden.com/products/productdetail.cfm?product=TRU8885-2

also worth checking if any buttons are stuck, or if the handset is set to pulse rather than tone mode, or if it has had a tumble or knock, possibly the keypad connector has come loose .

Hope this helps.

De-register/register

To De-register handset while original base present:
-Use De-register menu

To De-register handset without original base present:
-Press and hold "End" button, and while holding that, press and hold # as well.
OR
-Remove battery
-While holding * and # replace battery, and keep holding
-You should hear one beep (let go now)
-Press right menu soft button (at top)
-Should hear one beep and Clear EEPROM/RAM on screen
-Remove and replace battery once again (no need to hold any buttons now)

(USING ANY OF THE TWO METHODS ABOVE MEANT FOR NON-BASE PRESENT, WHILE BASE IS PRESENT WILL TAKE UP HANDSET SPACE ON BASE, eg. HS1 will become HS2, while base reserves HS1 name... a base reset will be required to deal with this).

Resetting the base itself (if you have any handsets deregister them normally before this)
-Unplug power
-Hold 'Delete Messages' key while plugging power back until beep (88 or 0 messages may show)
-Press PLAY once
(To check that all went well, check to see if anything shows under ROOM MONITOR, nothing should be there)
